if your only strategies to deal with an unfair media is "mope about it being unfair" or "get more racist to try and make them like you", and you've had tons of money and power and decades of time to do something about the problem, my sympathy turns quickly into "oh fucking well".

I have always found it amusing that leaders of countries and political organizations will arrange their public meeting rooms to have one or two portraits on the wall, nothing else, and a bunch of random ass seats.

Look my ongoing headcanon of this hellscape election is that it's basically competing cabals of necromancers with their respective puppets. So this tracks as the obvious next shift in Dem strategy.

As always, thank you for doing this. Still trying to get enough to make sure I can stay housed/pay the bills.

Still fighting being illegally fired for union activity but, like many labor fights, it's not a short one: paypal.me/SwordsAgainstThrone

i am tired of having to figure out who will misuse the power they are given over other people and withholding my support from those people. i want power flattened. i want people to have more options and i want less power in general held in the hands of individuals

by the way, stop defending Neil Gaiman. I don’t want to see it. We don’t want to see it. You are surrounded by survivors at all times and you are telling them that your support is conditioned upon how much you liked their abuser.

Worth adding: every single queer cop is, without exception, the worst kind of traitor to our communities and struggles. They deserve to be treated accordingly in every time and place.

As someone who comes from rural poverty (and is still poor) let me reassure you in advance: ACAB. Cops are evil. No identity or experience excuses becoming one and the rest of us should always act accordingly.

Americans mostly think that the rest of the world has immigration policies that are pretty similar to what they *think* US immigration policies are like: open to almost anyone, with special dispensation for refugees. We haven't been that country ... maybe ever, but we think we're the norm.

I will never stop going on about this because the incredibly false tropes that get peddled about medieval commoners are still used to excuse reactionary politics. Which the NYT has provided us a sterling example of.

Far-right chud in NYT: "They went about the ordinary business of life - laboring, raising children, worshipping their creator - untroubled by futile expectations of change." Medieval commoners: "I would rather the king and all kings were dead than that my son should be hurt on his little finger."

Not arguing with the spirit of the request but it’s just really funny that we’ve been begging people to unsubscribe from the NYT forever for wave after wave of anti-trans articles, cheerleading the genocide of Palestinians etc, but the “don’t vote” opinion article was the dealbreaker

Raises a good point. Very much depended on era and location. Larger conflicts outside the "fighting season" (and more supply set-ups) became more frequent later in the era. E.g. 1375 Gugler War where knights/mercs launched an autumn invasion of the Alps and supply was a major factor in their loss.

Mercenaries were kind of weirdly in-between. Some of the more organized companies had rations but as a whole were infamous for just stealing whatever they needed at the time, to the point that mercenary starving after a lost battle denied that to them wasn't unheard of.

There's documents from some of the more organized peasant commune forces specifying rations for their militia. Generally, at start of campaign two weeks' worth on each fighter, enough to sustain but not slow them down. Other stores held by supply wagons or taken from the enemy.

Depends but yes, generally they'd have at least some rations on them. If they're a commoner might have some other tools as well, as that's who dug field fortifications. Ironically if a noble or retainer, less likely to have food/water immediately on them because they had servants for that.
