I don't know how autopilot on ships operates, but I do have a lot of experience with taped up buttons and knowledge-phobic leaders. 99% that thing has been sitting on the defaults waiting a chance to navigate the ship directly to 0°00'00"N 0°00'00"W either through land or water for years.

my point is even if they did have it, it would have gone down for the same reason the Northpower one did, because it would have been designed with the same mindset as the Northpower one, where an entire-region outage is effectively considered an edge case.

You could run a script server-side every minute to cache outages in a JSON which you serve statically from a $50/mo host, or you could do it the new way and design a system that can scale horizontally so a few hundred cloud computers can all do the exact same thing for a few hours. Your choice.

When the Glorit Pylon fell over, the next thing to go down was Northpower's outage map. If Texas had one, that would have gone down too, because load-testing for the 99th percentile means nothing when the curve is a brick wall.

It’ll be interesting to see if I can find exact specifications of the colours somewhere. Some of the earliest areas of study in colour science were around measuring and predicting fading in textiles.
