I honestly wasn't aware there was any taboo against goat, other than it being 'exotic' because it was a little harder to get in most places, and I lived in the US for years. Mind you, I'm from Newfoundland, where mutton and goat were hardly uncommon traditionally.

I have never even heard of any taboo against goat, and I lived in the US for 3 years. As for horses, I posit it has a lot to do with their place of importance as transportation and work animals; just too valuable to eat, perhaps.

Aww, that's really sad. I had the good fortune to be interviewed by him in the studio once fir the morning show, during the starfish die-off back in 2013, and he was really friendly and genuine.
