Wow! Thanks for all that. Love hearing from an actual expert. Sorry to subject you to Doug. πŸ˜‚ I promise I won't request it again unless he decides to review another interesting Saab.

Didn't get around to this last weekend, so I dove in today. 1. I *hate* how dirty my engine is. Cannot wait to get the cleaned replacement swapped in. 2. I'm about halfway done. Thankfully, none of the bolts gave me too much trouble. Heat & PB Blaster FTW. πŸ”§ 3. Oh, and transverse engines suck.

On this Independence Day, it's important to come together and recognize our common ground. So, can we all agree that this just didn't work?

Yep; that was exactly the first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the itinerary. It was the Concorde of its time.

Back home after the quick trip. 28.34 mpg, all highway. Distributor w/internal coil & igniter is a known weak point for the KL, and it finally showed signs of failure on the trip out (ignition cut for ~1 sec at 20-30 min intervals). Fortunately I had my spare on hand and swapped it out this morn.

When Saab was going under, I would've bought a 9-5 for $14K without hesitation. The Fisker, not so much, since it's so software-dependent.

I agree; I think the Euro plate is better proportioned and just more attractive, even if it is larger overall. I do wonder if that's just a case of wanting what you can't have, since many of our friends across the pond seem to prefer the US size/proportions.

Yeah you front plate state folks have some interesting ways of skirting the requirement (on dash, magnets, retractable plates, etc). So glad I don't have to deal with that. You could probably credit Audi with being the first automaker to really embrace the situation.

Are there no provisions for custom plate sizes? I mean, there aren't here in the States (that I know of), but maybe the situation is different over there if you pay enough?

I'm fortunate enough to live in a state where front plates aren't required (it varies by state), so I honestly wouldn't know! I do know the Vector W8's *rear* license plate is very conspicuously offset.

Very much so. I wish I could've gotten them both in frame to emphasize the contrast, but the CT was long gone by that point.

OK, so it's no Vigor/Legend, but I think Mazda did the very best job they could with the DTA ratio given the platform. There's a pleasing amount of fender (wing) between the wheel arch and the front door.

I'm *kind of* OK with them on lighter-colored BMWs (white, silver, etc), but with darker color they're an absolute no-go. Best is chrome surround with black slats. Classic.

Looks that way. I thought we were discussing Biden's temperament re:electability. I agree with you he's a stubborn, dyed-in-the-wool old-school politician, but without the ability to pivot like some of his predecessors.

I agree his lack of bipartisan "results" is a minor contributor to his polling deficit, but in this hyperpartisan climate, it was always going to be that way. I don't think that's the primary reason for the state of the race now vs. 2020 though.

I mean, maybe. He won as an "old institutionalist" in 2020 b/c the country wanted a return to normalcy after 4 years of Trump chaos. The only thing that's changed between then and now is Biden's mental acuity. Trump's fitness for elected office was supposed to be the 2024 focus; now it's Biden's.

They're not going to let him do anything but read off a teleprompter for the next 4 months... Biden & his team could put forth a killer legislative & executive agenda, but the bottom line is that people vote for a person, not an administration, esp. for a singular office like the President.

I've really come around on the 2nd gen TT's lines. It's very much a more mature, grown-up version of the (admittedly more iconic) 1st gen. Also 5-cylinder haveage in TT RS guise.

How would it protect itself? By being unreliable and thus not giving coworker the opportunity to rag on it? I probably should have been more clear: There's regular wear & tear, and then there's what this coworker puts their cars through. Just Rolled In levels of neglect. Hoping for the best tho. 🀞
