Good. We should all be inconvenienced enough to call up an MPP about this, and the strikers should get everything they want. The LCBO is essential and you get all the revenue back. If you buy liquor at a private seller, that revenue is hoarded as profit.

In seasons 6 and 7 of DS9 there’s so much about the Dominion war and how many Federation ships have been destroyed. Could they not have just dropped into conversation, “Oh Wesley Crusher was on that ship that got blown to bits,” just as a feel-good moment?

Yeah I agree. I just have found an absence of any substance in press coverage. They use the pejoratives the far right use about left of centre parties without ever providing a policy they think is so extreme.

I would love it if any of these outlets named a policy they felt was "far left" or the work of an "extreme firebrand." Like, too many rights? "Extreme" housing for all?

In both the US and Canada, these centre right parties are demonstrating they would rather hand the country over to fascists than materially improve the lives of workers.

Love that the left wins an election in France and every North American outlet immediately repeats the assessments by the far right.

There are many things that infuriate me about the pundit class right now, but probably one of the top on my list:
Project 2025 has posted their plans for every single federal department on their website. They have a training academy for prospective appointees.
Where are the hard hitting op-eds?

Makes my skin crawl that these people have to spend the twilight of their lives being denied justice by people who weren’t even alive when they were brutalized and that what were supposed to be the best years of their lives was stained by an overt rejection of justice.

Mississippi is the poorest state in the US.
Even though the state gets federal welfare funds, it is difficult to get welfare.
The money was all getting stolen, and they got away with it.
Now the journalists who exposed the story are facing a lawsuit and jail.

I’m a bit late to Chappell Roan, but Pink Pony Club is such an epic song that in a just universe it would be like a Don’t-Stop-Believing-level “we all know this song” type song.

Possibly the funniest example of this. Gatsby’s beauty is almost exclusively in its prose. But my students tried this as well—to somehow distill the plot outline & themes from online sources. Such a waste of time! The love story is sort of immature; the sentences are some of the best in English.

The state informed executive agencies in March that the hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who work for the state would no longer get COVID-specific sick days.

This occurs with both of the main couples in George Eliot’s Middlemarch. Dorothea loses her inheritance but goes into politics; useless upper class twit Fred loses his inheritance gambling and then has to learn to read and write as an adult, but eventually marries and becomes a farmer/handyman.

Exception: if it’s a “Jake being a writer” episode. I don’t actively wish for him to perish in a transporter accident like Wesley Crusher, but I do skip episodes where he’s the A-plot.

The thing about DS9 is, the more useless filler the cold open makes the episode seem like, the more of a heartbreakingly beautiful work of art or wildly fun little caper it’s going to end up being.
