My coworker moved her family to her husband’s hometown in rural Texas. She was thrilled with the move. Personally, her stories about her children being legally beaten by school staff were a horror show and total dealbreaker however.

I feel better about the eight euros I spent on almost tasteless cherries now that I turned it (plus a euro worth of flour) into Cherry Grunt. They are local Belgian cherries so I’m assuming the horrendous wet weather is not good for cherries. They don’t taste like much still, but it’s better.

The most memorable aggressive driver I encountered in Belgium: 1. Passed me and forced the car with right of way onto the sidewalk to avoid front end collision. 2. Was one car ahead of me at every stop light the rest of the way.

I really like power bi! Except the name. I’ve worked with excel people moving into DAX more than SQL people. It’s fun to watch excel analysts go from a long switch statement and quickly grow into versatile coders.

My current breakfast favorite: Around a cup of Greek yogurt (or Turkish) Press a clove of garlic in. Pinch of salt. Stir well. Make coffee Fry an egg Put egg over yogurt Sprinkle the best paprika you can find over it My Turkish colleague said most Turks don’t poach the eggs.

As an American who loves all protein-rich breakfasts from around the world … I really struggle explaining to Brits and Europeans that when I speak of missing good peppers I am not talking about “chili” at all. What we ate the most in Texas was poblanos and anaheims. (Less spicy than jalapeños.)

I was driving from Belgium (where armistice day on Nov 11 is celebrated and everything is closed) to Cologne and had a small moment when I forgot who lost WWI.
This is the celebration in cologne. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cologne.... I went on the trip, but parked outside city center.

All this does is remind me that my first year working at a R1 institution with a TT professorship that I did get a salary for the extra week of work (only offered for the first year) but I had no desk chair and no computer until the new fiscal year started on September 1.
