The Court ruling today is terrible but expected. I will just gently remind everyone that the election hasn’t happened yet. We shouldn’t assume the worst outcome as a foregone conclusion. That only encourages more apathy than many are already feeling.

The thing I can't stop thinking about is this: I'm 48, and in my adult lifetime there has been one Republican who won the popular vote. But I will probably spend the rest of my life under the authority of a Supreme Court dominated by hard right conservatives. How is that democracy?

Pretty clear that the Federalist Society project to take over the courts for the far right is the most successful and consequential political effort in history. Only took them a few decades. Meanwhile, Dems are like "Let's not be hasty, blue slips serve an important function in preserving comity."

None are possible without a trifecta post November, right? And it seems like the chances of that dropped precipitously after Thursday. If we eke out a victory in November, I'm in favor of anything that we can get done! But personally favor expansion and narrowing jurisdiction

Thanks for the recc. I'm looking forward to finally reading it this summer. My dad gave it to me soon after it came out-right around when my son was born. Son is now 25, dad is gone, and I have more time on my hands than I did then. MC also wrote one of my favorite short pieces- Normal Time

My husband is from Nebraska and there is so much corn there but it is for cattle, corn syrup and ethanol. And the fruits and vegetables in the Wal Mart come from CA and Mexico

That is my understanding too (also not a constitutional lawyer) so have been of the mindset that best options are expansion or narrowing jurisdiction but as of now not politically feasible

Indeed a heavy lift (especially with current dems even) but easier than an amendment. Unfortunately I'm afraid all the solutions are either politically or logistically (win forever!) impossible which is just so depressing
