I think we've gotten so beaten down by the relentless media doomscroll that we keep thinking this is just how things have to be, when in fact there are super easy, known ways to change it, and we are quite capable of doing it. Just being reminded of that can be helpful now and again

I would care less if a fairer portion of the idiot's money went into the pockets of the people who product the items, but for idiots to pay that much to pad the pockets of profiteers while workers are forced to live in factories and work in dangerous conditions for illegally low wages angers me.

Whenever I see a story like this in a magazine like Business Insider, I feel like the subtext headlines are "Best Practice to Emulate" and "Authorities Threaten Profits Again".

Because the owners REALLY REALLY want the kleptocrats to take over the US government so they can extract as much unearned wealth as possible from workers and customers before runaway capitalism pushes the world into economic, climate, and humanitarian disaster?

It is *vital* to support the idea that people can walk away from repugnant views and seek to mend the harm they did instead of throwing them into living damnation. fucking stop this shit immediately. it's unacceptable. Go fix something.

As well-meaning publishers try to navigate the coming storm of state laws against diversity, I hope they'll consider Timothy Snyder's Rule #1 (from his slim book ON TYRANNY).

So this is 60! I celebrated by staying up until 7am to reread one of my favorite Robin Hobb books. Now, I'm haunting Kindle waiting for the new Bujold Penric novella to drop. While I have your attention: There are open spots in my editing calendar for July and August... 1/2

In Alan Moore's essays on writing comics, he drops a line in the conclusion: "It's more important to be a good human being than a good writer." Try to remember that.

We got tricked by science fiction into thinking a futuristic city is all about flying cars and crystal towers and hologram billboards but what it really looks like is nice apartment blocks, good mass transit, pedestrian zones with shade trees and safe bike lanes.

So did I the first time I watched it! In part, it felt like the characters were bickering more than bantering. But I saw an episode from a later season and it was great, so I went back. S1 was okay for a procedural, but a couple episodes into s2 they nailed the tone and the show took off for me.

Whoops. If you were making a joke about Rizzoli and the Isles as if they were a '60s band like Herman and the Hermit or as though this was an Italian's travelogue through the Greek archipelago, I missed it because I am overly earnest and want to be helpful.

Seven seasons of best friends Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles, Boston cop and medical examiner, solving crimes. Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander. First season was just okay for me, but it starts to sing in season 2. Based on the Tess Gerritsen novels. Currently streaming on Max.

I knew a woman whose brother once sneezed and popped his eyeball out of his head (he had a cracked orbital socket he didn't know about) and I thought that was the worst sneeze-gone-wrong story I was ever going to hear. Little did I know.

You should definitely take care of that before Friday this week. Maybe you should plan to do it on Thursday, so that when you forget and wake up the next morning, you still have a whole day to take care of it.
