If you're worried about brevity in your writing, don't. It took Project 2025 nine hundred pages to say fourteen words.

If you're American and don’t know about Project 2025, you need to. Find it. The Wikipedia article does a decent job of summarizing. You also need to know what Kevin D. Roberts has said about it. Believe these people when they lay their plans in front of you.

🙌 Yes! That's why I, an average middle-aged white dude, have bothered to post about it.

This is me pointing at something I don't like as a warning to my fellow humans.

And while you’re telling me, do us another favor, and don’t crap on something comparable. What you like isn’t made better by claiming, usually with no evidence, that something else is worse.

Listen, I care what you don’t like only if it’s so bad you mean to warn us all as a favor to fellow humans. If it isn’t literally that bad, don’t bother. Tell me what you do like and why. I’m here for that.

Also, I'd love folks to comment below, as well as on Itchio and DriveThruRPG with what they like about my little #TTRPG about investigator monks. 😊

I love the replays in Rosewood Abbey and Paris Gondo. It's an unusual practice in typical (western) design, but one other games could definitely take a lesson from.

No reason to pay for a resume service! Go to Amir Satvat's page. They offer free resume/portfolio reviews and mentoring services. If you're a game writer, there's a workshop channel in The DIN discord, and (of course) I wrote step by step guidance in my books

Ever wondered what a game designer's mailbox looks like during the editing stage?

@chrisssims.bsky.social is almost done with the #RosewoodAbbey rulebook editing.

Meanwhile, amazing volunteers are proofreading the Replay and I have two mysteries to finalise.

A big milestone is around the corner for my Rosewood Abbey TTRPG. ❤️

@chrisssims.bsky.social had a first pass at the whole rules and I need to feed back into it.

Meanwhile, I'm almost done with the Replay draft that will front the book. Can't wait to introduce y'all to the amazing Fratres Herodoti.

This game is special. It's a marvelous interpretation of Brindlewood Bay, and I am privileged to be a part of it.

Hey, it's likely we have a parasocial connection, and I'm thankful if it's more than that, but so many of you have had a positive impact on my life, and I appreciate you. Thanks for being there. You matter to me.

BTW, it's a little weird to hear Austrian teens use American slang, but that's the way it is. I like it!

My eldest got braces today. She looked in the mirror after getting them and said, "I slay in braces." I couldn't be happier, folks.

Totally. Some of the encounters were built to obviously scream "you shouldn't tackle this head on," which has been sidelined in a lot of modern design. (To the detriment of play, in my opinion.)

Right! I agree with your points. But it was the kind of thing you had to learn to eyeball within a gamut rather than rely on mechanical construction. In any case, modern D&D system is hardly perfect at balance either, still requiring tweaking after learning to eyeball things.

That said, the common areas (12 orcs) belie those attempts at balance in favor of a sort of bizarre realism. All I'm really saying is that smart referees and players can come down on either side of the issue in good faith. There are examples of both sides.

But to be fair on the other side, published adventures, including Keep on the Borderlands, gave some examples of attempts at balance, sequestering harder caves in the Caves of Chaos farther back in the ravine.

The sticking point is the phrase "cared about" in this case. To some, to "care about" something, a game must give you good tools to accomplish that thing. It's fair to say that, frex, early D&D didn't do that for encounter balance. Telling the referee to "consider it" isn't the same thing.

Not yucking yums, but it seems the popularity of things rehashing existing things is due mostly to timing and marketing. One can still get the old thing, cheap, but the new thing sells wildly with no to little innovation. "Have you seen new thing?!" "Yes, in 1981. PDF now $5."

My wife's family had a house burn to the ground the past weekend, She was visiting when it happened. No injuries, but the house and every possession in it are a total loss.
A friend of theirs is raising funds to help.
