While not unique, I wonder if the British are "more aware than the average nation" of climate and weather shifts: lots of gardening, dog-walking. Ancient histories of footpaths, detecting seasons and wind.

Yep, we got one of those too. It's just not as good as the standalone countertop one. Lesson learned.

Definitely check. Also, there's no need to "get a range". We have had great success trying it out with a single plug-in induction appliance. After using it on the counter, simply put it away :)
(A few years back I noticed pro chefs were using plug-in induction for their demonstrations)

Not all induction stoves are the same, there's quite a variability.

I wonder if he undid “being run by officials” through the reported micromanaging. Unwitting self destruction through Head Boy behavior?

Thanks @chadbourn.bsky.social I hope you're right. and I like them too.
Over at the New Statesman there's Ben Walker's good work updated daily (at the moment) here, with an actual map and data table you can open (and even make a copy)

I'm wondering about this too. What do we want from it?
Seats declared by election officials in near-real-time?
National Map?
Do we have any early leads or hopefuls for this?
For example: www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/map_home.html can be useful...

Seems like a good time to ask @chadbourn.bsky.social what his setup is for Election Night. What sites? Which radio?

There's a terrible risk of bad message, poorly executed, very late being not just "too little, too late", but making it *worse* - a jolt to emphasize the "punishment" aspect that appears this week (Ashcroft et al).

I permit myself some optimism about the reports that Starmer is possibly less doctrinaire political and more pragmatic ("what works" is reported). Governments must become more useful, local, visible, obvious. Here Strong Towns (.org) is good on this.

Agreement on all points. I'm based in the USA (Virginia) and it is similar. So, I'm a first-generation immigrant (highly controlled though via Green Card). We immigrants (and some economists) know that we contribute massively to GDP growth. I think your point is bigger though...

Some (e.g. Timothy Snyder) make a fair argument about this as, writ large, a worldwide democratic problem. There is a tension between the John Major view of centrist parties as doomed to lose to an extreme at some point, and the current situational Macron play in France.

I mostly agree with this, yet as you have noted in other recent posts there is evidence of outright mad panic appearing (the Jenrick and Cash things you noted). I'm wondering if at the constituency level the numbers reveal a lethal pincer btw Reform erosion and either a LD or Labour win.

In the midst of a mad rant from Bill Cash in the Telegraph is this choice gobbet of paranoia. The Tories are going to hurtle off down a betrayal narrative for years to come.

I'm very grateful for this and I do not consider it a rant. I have found this very useful in thinking about my own work (writing about software market dynamics) and perhaps I err on the side of the challenge. I could reframe as a way to enlighten and inform less pointedly, with more data in context.
