To be fair, the rest of the rules only make sense if it's an incredibly formal party attended by at least several dozen rather tense strangers, so organizing shoes would be hard and either the apartment in question is massive and has paid cleaners, or it's not an apartment it's an event space.

Mmmmm, the smell of summer in NYC, rotting garbage and steaming piss. Here in Hawaii nobody even bothers with dress shoes when we go to a party at someone’s house. We all have our “nice slippers” because no one civilized would consider wearing shoes inside.
