Remember: Texas is not a red state. Texas is a massively voter-suppressed state, with a lot of people working very hard and very thanklessly to fix that.

Who the fuck else are they going to run? The election is in five months. No one has been fundraising except Biden. Top Democratic leadership is mostly equally ancient and the ones who aren't mostly suck.

So I've been selling most of what we own on Facebook marketplace over the last few months and honest to god, I think I have PTSD from that chat sound.
"Hi is this available?"
"Yep, still available!"

After 31 years of driving I finally hit an animal. Sparrow flew right in front of the car and then rolled up over the hood/window. Hope it's ok but I kind of doubt it. 😕

It's a bummer but the nice thing is that design trends roll around. We'll bounce back to textures and bevels and shadows. Just like what happened with Apple/Skeuomorphism in the mid 00s. Not sure we'll ever see anything as wild as the late 90s, early 00s net tho. That might be over.

At this point all I can do is advocate for progressive causes, vote for progressive candidates in local/state elections, and in the case of federal elections, vote for the guy whose party at least vaguely wants to govern, regardless of whether I think he's fit for the job or not.

Shout-out to my electric/gas company which emails me a bill every month that has no link to pay said bill (the closest thing is a "view your account" link that you have to scroll to the bottom of the email to see). They want you to download a password-protected PDF and then pay from there ... ?

I've spent twelve years in Providence watching progressive candidates refuse to do this - everyone runs till the bitter end, no one gets enough votes, the centrist (or worse, right-leaning candidate) wins. Might not be enough, but glad to see French politicians have some sense.

A weird but surprisingly effective way to spot scammers is to look for them to use the word "kindly" at some point. It's not a word that Americans use often in common conversation.

Stumbled across this design I did for a QuakeCon 2001 mini-site for PlanetQuake. Two things stand out to me:
1. I kind of miss when all websites didn't look basically identical
2. I enjoyed having a job where I could present this kind of sample text without a second thought.

A job I was looking forward to just fell through because I requested a very basic “please don’t feed my work into the AI garbage chute pls” clause in the contract
That was apparently against company policy and non-negotiable

Over the weekend, I found a tiny pink plastic shoe on the ground near my office.
I placed it at eye level, on a wooden post, by the stairs.
This morning, on that same post, was this picture.

So the far right nationalist party in France is, barring some kind of miracle in the run-off elections next week, going to be the largest party in parliament. It's reflective of a broader global trend of people feeling scared and left behind, and turning to populism/nationalism. Not a good scene.

I have to assume all of these states passing obviously unconstitutional separation-of-church-and-state-challenging laws are doing so because they believe one of these cases will go to the Supreme Court and shatter said separation irrevocably.

And yes, I know there are plenty of older people still fully capable of doing quality work. That's awesome! If they would like to do that instead of retiring, may I suggest any of the millions of other jobs that are not "President of the United States"?

It is both ageist and also correct that there should be an upper limit on how old someone can be to run for president. We already have the ageist "candidate has to be 35" rule. We should add "candidate must be 60 or under to run for term 1, 64 or under for term 2."
(and honestly I'd accept lower)
