See that's, a, great example of complications. A lot of good decent people worked on his movies and are still getting royalties from it, too

Yeah, i wasnt a huge fan, but i get it. On his show, the scene where a gay comic says what the word "fa**ot" means to him is still incredibly powerful. I use the lesson from that scene to explain the difference between a slur & a curse word to my older kid

Yeah. Those kinds of things really change the relationship to those pieces of art. "tainted" really is the right word, I think.

So i guess I came down here You can still love the art you love, even if it's tainted. You can break from it too. That weighing of emotional impact vs shittiness of deed is different for every artist & every person. Loving tainted works is a bittersweet part of the complicated human experience

I didnt totally love the book, I didn't like where she went in some of the middle chapters, But there's art that hits you in great ways & sometimes it's made by people who do bad things.

In light of the horrible allegations at one of my favorite authors I read this last year, & its about coming to terms with Art that resonates with you despite the awfulness of the person creating it. I think this is a very useful excercise
