One thing I've learned the hard way in news is that whenever there's a situation where I think "this is untenable, it can't go on like this!" it's goes on for a shockingly long time.

There’s no way to know what’s going to happen until it happens, but I very much do not see this happening. Trumps age also will never be used as a tangible talking point by whoever runs, it will exist as a contrast with whoever stands next to him, in the way that Bidens was not.

In fact I would like the candidate who runs to be able to use age as an advantage 😊

They also picked a very good time to use their intra-party credibility and push back on the party line

In the scenario where he doesn’t go, the election still very much becomes a referendum on Harris as the VP.

The freaking out plus Biden as a candidate proving the point by being seemingly unable to assuage any fears.

People are underestimating how different a candidate with no discernible reason to run is from a “candidate who has had history thrust upon them.”

Gotta say, even my largely politics-is-not-for-me relatives on Facebook are having a fucking conniption over the SCOTUS ruling. My uncle posted "We left England because we don't want a King. Charles is an inbred." I'm not sure what one has to do with the other, but he's right.

the thing I keep wondering is how this SCOTUS will determine that Trump is permitted to seek a third term

It seems crazy to me that this dynamic is so so obvious, and yet it’s impossible to talk about online unless you thread the needle with the absolute most agile prose so you don’t set anyone off

This is an incredibly vibes-based argument, but I think people may underestimate how much more the wind could be at a candidates back when they’re “rising to meet a moment that is thrust on them” as opposed to “one of twenty four in a primary”

I’m plagiarizing this point from the Pod Save Guys, but it’s not just about debating Trump- all of the “earned media” stunt kind of stuff you can do (Hot Ones, WTF, Between Two Ferns type of stuff), can’t really be done by Biden. His Stern interview was fine, but very gentle.

Something that feels like it doesn’t get priced in, and can’t get priced into hypothetical polls, is how someone would do if they could communicate their argument clearly against Trump

I think that BlueSky is creating a greenhouse effect of people trying to convince people (and each other) that everything is fine, when the reaction to this debate is nothing like we’ve ever seen from a political party. Whether this guy decides to say “fuck off” to me is irrelevant to that.

If you're not watching it, I really have to emphasize this is the absolute worst Biden has ever sounded at a debate. Hoarse, unfocused, losing his train of thought. It's probably worse than you'd imagine based on just seeing posts bsky.app/profile/pato...
