I find a hard part of this is convincing progressives that the person who is economically left-leaning but praises Trump/Farage/Le Pen/Modi/Orban/etc. in favour of Liberalism are not being contrarian or rhetorical.

If there's one meme or talking point that played a central role in the American fascist tradition, it was the claim that "Communism is Jewish." The official 2024 GOP platform makes a reference to "Christian-hating Communists" who the Republicans will keep from entering the country. Back in the early days of the America First movement, "Christian-hating Communists" would have just been a longer way of saying "Jews."

My Julian Assange story is that we got him to walk back support for Gamergate by threatening to cancel his book launch party, and then after the party he walked back his walk back. I have never forgotten the flexibility of his convictions outside the public eye.

One of my best friends is Jewish, and -- quite rationally -- wary of hard-leftist spaces for reasons such as these. For me, these people are dire embarrassments. For her, they're dangerous. Just fundamentally unreliable people who can't tell triangulation from reaching fascism by a stack overflow.

there really is a painful cycle of newly politically engaged people getting excited about revolutionary thinking, realizing it doesn’t work like that, and then either becoming cranks or normal liberals. while a lot of the annoying twitter libs were wrong about dirtbag leftists, plenty were right.

There were 16 trans youth suicides after gender affirming care restrictions were implemented in the UK in 2020 compared with only 1 in the 7 years prior. Staff at the NHS attempted to cover it up. Hilary Cass knew but minimized what was happening. This is a massive scandal. Cass lied, kids died.
