could be, but i would assume the call centers are being used for fundraising, polling, etc rather than answering inbound calls

not sure what’s going here but there is basically no way that anyone who works for The Heritage Foundation would be shaken by learning that the organization opposes abortion and Obamacare

Adam Liptak should be fired for this. It's not some sort of minor technical error or a debatable issue. He's simply lying.

the dominant narrative on Twitter right now is that Dems are cowards for not coming out against Biden. but even if you think he should step aside, the calculus is tricky. if you call him out and he stays, all you’ve really done is hurt the party’s chances. not an easy call.

This week’s premium episode is about United States v. Rahimi, where the Court’s conservatives twisted themselves into humiliating knots trying to escape the logic of their own decisions. Subscribe to listen.

Still marveling at Gorsuch's Ohio v. EPA opinion, in which he confused nitrogen oxide (a pollutant) with nitrous oxide (laughing gas). He did this five times, never once getting it right—in an opinion overruling the EPA's own expert scientific analysis! s3.documentcloud.org/documents/24...

the Eric Adams episode is an inevitability. i watch his press conferences, i read his press releases. i spend my days trying to comprehend him. it won’t be very soon, but as surely as the sun rises and the birds sing i will do an Eric Adams episode.

i keep seeing videos of people acting shitty in public where a top comment is something like “wonder who they voted for 🙄.” i honestly think a winning message for Dems is just “aren’t you sick of these fucking people”

right. NYT leadership knows they operate in a moderate/liberal bubble, and after 2016 they decided that the only way to adjust for this is to always assume that reactionary thought is more popular than it seems to be

the SCOTUS ruling held that official acts can’t even be used as *evidence* against a president, so the fact that the actual crimes here occurred after he left office doesn’t resolve the issue. that’s that John Roberts magic.

Cannon is a whack job, but considering the SCOTUS ruling it’s pretty reasonable to request briefing on this. The real issue here is that the SCOTUS ruling is insane.

the implied premise here is that the decline in Biden’s polling numbers is being driven by the media coverage rather than the debate itself. but several awful polls came in the days immediately following the debate. the debate itself was the problem

sorry but this is just wrong. yes, there’s a bad faith media feeding frenzy. but *fifty million* people watched Biden sputter his way through that debate. it is not a creation of the media, it is a real problem.

the real bottom line for me is that no matter how you characterize it, the media frenzy is at a point where Biden’s only hope of quelling it would be to put on a performance that he’s just not capable of putting on

i think Trump’s success in distancing himself from the policies of his own people is at least partially because there’s an authenticity to it: he really doesn’t give a shit about the right wing agenda, he’s just willing to trade it in exchange for power

a big takeaway from all of the Biden drama is that huge swathes of the public — including reasonably engaged people — think that political parties are a small cabal of elites who select candidates by hand

they don’t have a definitive position, they just think Biden’s options are (1) step aside or (2) get out in front of this ASAP, and he’s doing neither. they also have some good vision into the party dynamics at play.

i’ll admit i thought he had the juice for the campaign until the debate, because he pulled it together every time he needed to. Every debate, every state of the union, etc. was always prefaced by people saying Biden didn’t have it and being proven wrong. but they were bound to be right eventually.

in 2020 “Biden is too old” was a big narrative going into the first debate with Trump, but he performed well and shut the concerns down. Ever since then, concerns about his age have had a boy who cried wolf element to them, and i think that’s part of why so many people were caught off guard.
