I'm catching up on #CephalopodWeek content (since I didn't have much online time this week) and this ink-terview is FASCINATING! I did not know about pygmy sperm whale ink 🤯 nor that melanin binds to heavy metals so ink helps remove toxins! 🦑🧪

Back by popular demand...MOTH NIGHT!

I know what you're thinking..."I want to go into the spookiest local ecosystem at night & appreciate biodiversity, but I can't convince any of my friends to do that with me!"

I understand. Moth night is for you.

I just spend two amazing days bumming around Roman ruins in the south of Italy, so my contributions to #CephalopodWeek are these two absolutely stunning more-than two-thousand-year-old mosaics from the apodyterium (changing room) of the women’s baths at Herculaneum

Insert an Invert: Ectoparasite Now introducing: Ceratothoa springbok, as shown in an unlucky Carpenter fish. Not gonna lie, these parasites are very cute to me. If one promised me it could do amazing job interviews for me, I might just trade in my tongue.

Want to support queer ocean art & science? 🧪🦑🐙🐡

I’m a Salish Sea natural historian photographing gelatinous marine inverts & trying to 3D scan them this summer.

In the puget sound we see this with muusoctopuses! Species that should be found way deeper in much shallower waters!

WEIRD + EXCITING thing going on. Folks in CT found a bobtail squid living in shallow seagrass. Spencer Nyholm told me this morning & we both got VERY excited about it. We'd expect to see those bobtails in much deeper water. (This pic is a bobtail, different species) (1/?)

Come ask me very weird and wacky question you’ve ever had about octopuses! I was built for this 💪😤 …also learn about what research looks like but questions are admittedly more fun 🤧

It's the time of year when dogs start going in the water in many places, so just be aware that if your dog has a topical flea treatment, it can wipe out the invertebrate ecosystem in whole ponds.

Story time: one time I found a new species unknown to science during #InverteFest in Dec 2021.

This thing that looks like a weird, long spider is called a schizomid, also known as spricket (short for spider cricket). Schizomids are obscure, understudied arachnids most people have never heard of.
