I'm pretty sure McDonalds funds the GoP, Israel, and participates in union busting efforts, and does protect franchise owners who are racist if they think it protects their profit margins. McDonalds sucks, they just don't suck more than any other Fast Food chain. Rowling does extra-suck.

This is something that feels awkward to explain in short skeets, but McDonalds is the perfect comparison. Some people love it and its all they eat. Some people think its absolute trash for moral and health reasons and refuse to touch it. Most people are somewhere in the middle.

I could also cite multiple negative impacts of McDonalds and how its food is unhealthy and various ways it mistreats its workers. But it's still incredibly popular and there are understandable reasons why. (it's tasty and convenient) Good critique requires understanding the intended audience.

My take on the Harry Potter series is that it is like the McDonalds of literature. I'm not even a person that hates McDonalds, and with the exception of a few parts I don't even hate Harry Potter, just the author. But a Big Mac, while tasty, isn't fine dining. Harry Potter isn't high art.

I think a thing that's poorly understood about American history is that a lot of the progress made through the New Deal was driven by the political elite's fear of the Russian Revolution happening here and not by them having a sudden turn of heart after being visited by multiple ghosts or something.

I'd argue the people pushing for a younger working age are ignorant that some parents and guardians force young teens into employment so they can take part or all of their income but they aren't. If anything this is probably on the behalf of every unfit parent who wants to exploit their child early.

The reason my drug dealer got into selling drugs in the first place was to have the money to pay to his adopted mother so she wouldn't throw his ass out of the house at fourteen. He got out of there by the time he was seventeen because she'd want an even larger cut of anything he made by eighteen.

So this guy was adopted by a woman as a baby, same as all of the other kids she raised. She considered herself a good Catholic woman doing her duty to god. She also insisted all of her adopted children get a job at the minimum legal age and pay rent at market rate.
