There are two elements to the immunity decision that are particularly extreme in a way that many will miss: (1) motive is irrelevant and (2) immune acts are not just excluded from prosecution, they’re excluded from evidence. /1

Whatever that was last night, you can't really call it a debate. By the moderators not doing any fact checking, it left Biden in the position of having to do it. Treating both candidates as equal, and trying to apply past standards when all one candidate does is blatantly lie, was ridiculous.

Excellent. I've been looking for something other than the horror of history to read! Thanks!

The bottom line here is that we all need to be aware & informed. Of course, we all need to vote but also become involved in making sure other folks have access to facts. No one is coming to save us. We have to step up and help ourselves & others to be able to recognize & act on the truth.

And the people who have been ringing the alarm bell for quite some time--journalists, historians, activists, politicians, public officials--are often vilified by the the very same people they are trying to warn us about. None of this is new either.

It's beyond concerning. It's alarming & scary how easily the general public will accept lies as fact. Every day I see stories in the news cycle that are either completely or partially false.

This time around we also have to overcome the challenges of AI, deep fakes, and political machine that seems to have it tentacles wrapped deeply around not only elected officials, and SCOTUS, but also controls a large segment of the media.

If you don't believe me, read some actual history--not the BS that gets parroted by right wingers. Or listen/read the historians of the current age. There are a slew of them that post every day on a variety of social platforms.

And misogyny. Let's not forget that part. Women make up one of the largest demographics in the U.S., (white people are the largest at 250+M) and we stand to lose the most if these regressive, oppressive, supremacists get their way.

None of what we are seeing play out within the political, legal, and cultural realm is new. We have been here before even if the circumstances (& tech) are slightly different. The core of all of this is white supremacy beyond a doubt.

The corruption, the use of government officials to parrot propaganda of an opposing force, attempts to discredit allies, attempts to discredit the DOJ to prevent investigations & prosecution of traitors to the U.S. who were serving in our government--all the same as what is happening right now.

Listening again to the 1st season now, I find it even more shocking how the GOP is using the same playbook that was used by Nazi sympathizers leading up to and during WWII. Obviously, the tech is different & modern now, but at the core, they are using the same tactics.

When I listened to the 1st season for the first time I was struck by the similarities in tactics being deployed in the late 30s & early 40s to what was happening currently in the U.S. and elsewhere.

The beginning of June, the 2nd season of Rachel Maddow's podcast "Ultra" dropped. After listening to the first few episodes available, I decided to go back and listen to the 1st season again which was released in 2022. 🧵

Anyway, I'd like to thank Snopes for their supremacist-exonerative bullshit, which so brilliantly illustrates my premise, right on cue. VERY FINE PEOPLE is out today, available wherever books are sold.

It's about the exonerative lies we tell ourselves.
We? Me.

100%. Especially considering that the people who visit libraries, art museums, and sites like Stonehenge are the very people who are more likely to already support climate action. So it makes zero sense to alienate and anger them by defacing works of art!

Why not conduct their protests at the businesses who profit from fossil fuels? Why not the giants of the industry? Why not legislatures of countries? Stonehenge, art museums, & golf tournaments are soft targets. So these are indeed very lazy protesters.

And the question of harm to the stones has really not been answered since these are “living” monuments. The reason the public is kept from touching them is because even slight contact can cause damage to the microcosm—lichen & other organisms that live on the stones.

Let’s say these folks went into your place of worship & sprayed their “non-toxic” paint all over the altar. Pretty sure that would consider that desecration of a sacred space. That the paint allegedly did no harm to physical stones doesn’t account for the violation of a spiritual space.

Spot-on, as usual. The greatest irony of the Stonehenge "protest" is that Just Stop Oil managed to alienate an entire spiritual faction that almost unilaterally supports climate action--Pagans & other earth-based religions. Desecration of a sacred site, is counterproductive.

I would but I weeded the side garden at work yesterday morning for like 3 hours. I still have not recovered! If you're working outside, take LOTS of breaks and stay hydrated! I thought I was doing it right & still ended up feeling like crap.
