I've never heard it myself, but imagine the TV mix of this film that omits all of the profanity.
"We're fucked, man!" repeated 600 times, with bad dubbing to make it "We're fudged, man!"
This is one aspect of the industry that I believe has gone extinct, thankfully.

Going through a box of papers I found this timeless text printed on a sheet of paper which used to hang on the wall of my studio when I was at The Outpost Building on Hollywood Blvd in the 1990s. Christopher Isherwood, "Prater Violet," 1945

I have no doubt that Afrik Bawantu would leave you sweaty & smiling at a show. The Ghanaian singer & djembe player's newLP is an uptempo fusion of classic Afrobeat grooves & his highlife roots, delivered by a seriously tight ten piece London ensemble.

'Cellulose nitrate was used to make dice from the late 1860s until the mid twentieth century, and remains stable for decades. Nitric acid is released in a process called outgassing. The dice cleave, crumble, and then implode.'

European sports rivalries just hit different. In America we will hate a rival because they beat us in the playoffs a couple times.
In Europe they are like "yes we hate that team, because in 1456 they disposed our king and did a light genocide against us. Also they dive a lot."

My latest album NEW MODERN STRINGS was inspired in part by the classic NEW ANCIENT STRINGS after I discovered the Gravikord, a thoroughly modern electric instrument inspired by the kora.
Mine is here: newmodernstrings.com

Heather Cox Richardson’s daily newsletter is an extremely useful take on current events from the perspective of a historian. A concise & pointed overview with receipts & links to sources. Much more useful to me than the coverage in major media like the NY Times.

Is there good journalism and opinion in the NYT sometimes? Of course. And sometimes there are useful items on Facebook Marketplace. But what is it _for_? It's for the same thing as Facebook, and run with the same arrogance and insularity, based on the same fictions.

In 1968 in U.S. Navy boot camp at Great Lakes, they showed a movie to us. What do you show a bunch of white boys? "She" starring Ursula Andress is a 1965 British film about an archaeologist who finds a lost city ruled by a mysterious queen whose love holds the promise of immortality. Duh.

In 1983 I had taken no drugs or alcohol at all before a screening of Nic Roeg's PEEFORMANCE and I had a terrifying disassociative episode during the film which I interpreted as an acid flashback. I've been too scared to ever revisit the film, although I love the soundtrack album.

I recently got a 4 cd set called RHAPSODIES IN BLACK: MUSIC AND WORDS FROM THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE. It came with a beautifully designed 100 page booklet. And each CD has amazing cover art.

UK politics can be grim, but election night there with constituencies being largely ungerrymandered, losers standing next to winners of podiums, and the "election season is 6 weeks, not 2 years" default is incredibly wholesome
