We urgently need Bsky to open up to all, as well as get Australian journos/politicos on here too.
Australia has most concentrated media ownership environment in the democratic world.
We used to use Twitter as a way to spread good info & hold power to account.
Bsky is the only viable replacement.
I'm seeing some journos expressing discomfort posting here (especially "live") because there is no video and no real verification system. I imagine until this happens, seeing news outlets here will be very limited. Lack of video is definitely holding a lot back.

Bluesky has to open the gate... levels of insanity after levels of insanity reached at X and the closed gates is not allowing the flow of migration, journalists are not moving because the mass is still at the gate, stuck on X.

Hi, Emily! I’ve been out of journalism for years, but I’ve reached out to my former paper. They do have a “Connect with us” page that includes a lot of the contacts you might need. (The Tampa Bay Times is Florida’s biggest and best newspaper, and is independently owned by the Poynter Institute.)
Why has the roll out been so slow? Threads is in all the news, Bluesky kept invites super exclusive. Social media only works when everyone can join- otherwise it’s a waste of everyone’s time.
It would be good to get across.
I think once hash tags are there (if the rumours are right), that will be good for sport. Maybe also need to look see if can get some official accounts for teams etc over?
You have a lot of science journalists here. One of the biggest lists is about science. Maybe you could capitalize on the enthusiasm for new scientific results? I know for sure that many professional astronomers and astronomy/space journalists have been migrating here.
I don't have contacts there, but I would love to see Pittsburgh City Paper, WESA, Pittsburgh Tribune Review and Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium on here. Not the Post-Gazette, they are a scab paper. pghguild.com
An easy way would be to give we journalists more invites to share with our colleagues... Or just drop the invite system altogether.
An accessible, reliable verification program of sorts would be lovely too.
have you all thought about including sports journalists as part of this too? obviously their presence isn’t as important in terms of providing information in times of crisis, but sports are a huge driver of engagement and sports news is one of the main reasons some folks (like me) are on social
Is there an easy way of connecting a whole newsroom with you? I’m sure several of our reporters would be interested in joining (and I know plenty of people in other newsrooms too who would)
How Bluesky wins the day:
1) bring into the fold (and preferably provide verification of) legitimate news sources
2) gifs

I write recaps and television opinion pieces for Rick Ellis’s site, ‘All Your Screens.’ I told him when I got an invite I would send it his way. I believe he’s on a waiting list.
The power of that other place back in the day was that individual journalists and photojournalists had their own accounts. Here, they could even be linked to the federated account for verification.
Emily - suggest you reach out to the folks at Institute for Nonprofit News (inn.org) and Local Independent Online News (lionpublishers.com) to get the word out to hundreds of news outlets.

They say journalists are the backbone but still have them scrounging around for invite codes and waiting for email replies for access. That’s ridiculous
