I have been waiting for this to come out for those people desperately wishcasting for Biden to drop out. It's not even clear an alternative could *be* on the ballot in several key swing states. It's a galaxy-brain stuff. We have to live with the consequences of this primary and just do our best!

I get that and I agree, but I am most focused on getting us through this time period so democracy, even one that is currently as messed up as ours, still exists and so that our children can live in a world outside of a right-wing hellhole.

I understand that you are in a different situation than others since you're not in a swing state. I appreciate your pragmatic approach. I do think it's crazy when people think the future under Trump and the GOP is even remotely similar to the situation we (and the world) are in currently.

I also think people are dramatically responding to one debate performance like there aren't a million things that will happen between now and the election. One terrible performance at a debate doesn't give a full enough picture to determine the amount of someone's cognitive health.

I am a progressive (Warren voter). I voted for him in 2020. I will do it again this year because he is the Democratic candidate. He was never anywhere near my top choice, but he's what we've got. Much rather a super old guy than a malevolent authoritarian.

I'm honestly really surprised when lefties tell me they are surprised Biden is old. I mean, isn't that part of why lefties and progressives argued against renominating him again? Biden did a bad job at the debate. It's absolutely true. But there was a whole lot more there worth reporting.

Biden called him a "convicted felon" guilty of "sexual assault" and "having sex with a porn star while his wife was at home with a newborn" (all new) and I didn't see anyone at the NYT write that up as news.

The argument IMO isn't whether Biden is too old (he is, as is Trump), but what good Biden stepping down would do IMO. I'm curious -- what makes you think Republicans would even allow another Democrat on the ballot in certain states when there are elections deniers in SoS offices? Or even in Ohio?

Yes, I watched the whole thing. I also have interacted with a lot of people with dementia and cognitive injuries. I don't know who this "best friend" you're referring to is, but it seems to me that there are all sorts of way that comment can be taken.

Biden showing signs of age is not the same as dementia, and a cognitive assessment is used to indicate whether dementia or some other massive cognitive problem is present. Even if he did get a cognitive test, it wouldn't show what people are concerned about.
