The middle aged male executive hysteria around “we gotta do something with blockchain, even if I have absolutely no idea what it is” of the early to mid 2010s was really an omen
Look... I'm a tech guy who remembers the original A-Team tv show.
I worry about falling behind or being regarded as a dinosaur.
But if you look at a new tech and say "we have to add this" but can't say why... that's a problem.
classic "oversupply of capital, got to use it for something" days. (Capital does not include ecosystem services, health and wellbeing of work force of course).
I remember a company reaching out to me because they were looking for programmers because they were investigating the blockchain or what ever the term was back then. The kicker, they weren't a tech company, they were a tea company.
I remember seeing an ad for some tech firm during football that they use blockchain technology to track the provenance of tomatoes. Like I know San Marzano fraud is real, but there has to be a better way.
So, blockchain was luckily somewhat transparent for a lot of people that it's a big nothing. But what about all the other technologies that we integrated? (Eg. if I look at the source code of a website it's all gibberish.) Are all the ubiquiotous techs really necessary?
