Lifetime caps: some insurers would say that once a person had run up a (lifetime) bill of $2M or so, they were no longer insurable, kicked forever to Medicaid and Medicare. NICU nurses told me abt pre-ACA kids who would hit their lifetime cap before their first breath of fresh air.

Something I never knew existed when I was younger: There is an elite system of arbitrage in which the rich want to be famous and hang out with famous people; famous people want to be seen as smart and hang out with smart people, and smart people want money so they hang out with rich people.

The Burroughs B205 head was so iconic in old shows -- Batman and Lost in Space in particular -- that I assumed it was just a prop. I became obsessed when I learned it was salvaged from actual computers. I even have a prop replica I bought many, many years ago, during this phase.

I feel a certain something now that I have caught a plague of our times. My first novel was about a bubonic plague witness. She sees the social upheaval and horrors, and the trauma drives her into an impossible future. And now, I dodged the worst physical outcomes but witnessed societal damage.
