This is possibly the best nicoise salad I've had since I worked at Pfizer -- they made a great one to order in their cafeteria. And that was you-didn't-even-know-I'd-worked-at-Pfizer years ago.

we often think of people as archetypes, and heap expectations on them, as if they aren't actual, complex people we do this to editors, agents, and others writers sometimes do it to themselves, demanding they be just like someone else give yourself space to be human; to be complex to be a person.

What if I started thinking of lit mags as enclosures with a specific biome and my poems as beasts that may or may not thrive in that habitat? My world changed when I started thinking of people that way. It's not anyone's fault if a particular habitat doesn't suit a creature's specific needs.
