Gonna keep banging this drum- it was always on the cards after he came out as the most pro labour president of the 21st century, and probably my lifetime. Of course the corporate shill wing of the party want him gone and of course the leftmost part of it recognise how good he's been for their causes

This is why I have absolutely refused to follow marketing guidance on what I ~should~ do with my IG. No, I will not limit myself to one sole aesthetic, and yes, I will damn well post pictures of my dog and wine classes and whatever else I please. I am a person, take it or leave it.

We would all prefer the structural engineer who would make the building fireproof, but I’m still going to vote for the fireman over the fire.

note how long it took the French from calling the election to holding not 1 but 2 votes? and organizing the shit out of the second one? LESS THAN ONE MONTH A national election does not have to be a painful 1.5-2 year process! the US election campaign should quite honestly not even have started yet!!

if there is one thing I want to come out of this election, regardless of result, it is Dems - and the left more generally - finally understanding that they need to make their own media ecosystem and stop relying on folks who want them to lose to get their message out

2024 is the year when democracy is on the ballot, with extraordinary risks of major powers turning to authoritarianism. But in the space of the a couple of days, two of the biggest countries in Europe have moved decisively to the left. One of these was expected (UK), the other not (France).

A widely predicted victory for the far right in France has instead turned into a victory for the left *because people turned out in record numbers to vote.* Defeat is not inevitable and more progressive elected officials means more progressive policies.

I would've loved something that could've freed up my time and energy so I could focus more on TEACHING. And evaluation! And helping my students! I would not ever in my life trust AI to do that part of the job for me.

When I was adjuncting, I'd have loved something automated to do the non-teaching things I hated doing and that took up so much time. Sending out assignment reminders. Prodding for missing assignments. Testing Canvas to make sure it's functioning properly. All sorts of admin things.

Y'know... I can think of lots of uses for professors to have AI assistants. Actually teaching is not anywhere on that list.

Campaign news has overshadowed this.

For all those who missed it: the administration announced $1 billion to help communities be more resilient to climate change/natural hazards.

Y'know if I win a lottery this year, going to the Eras Tour is definitely on the priority list. Behind, like, buying a house. But possibly ahead of paying off student loans.

It is Saturday of a high stress week, and I have the house to myself, so I'm getting tipsy and having an Eras Tour sing-along as loud as I please. If I get tipsy enough, should I also do drunk tarot? I haven't done drunk tarot in a while.

(This is, by the way, not about me looking young for my age but rather about the fact that young'uns have NO IDEA how old their elders are. It's not a thing they reliably perceive.)

I could not possibly look or behave more like the elder Millennial that I am, and the young Gen-Z / elder Alpha kids I'm working with this summer were STUNNED to learn that I was older than 21. I am 38. Wear what you want; age is an illusion.

"Sometimes I wonder if all this coverage is because the media know how to cover a normal problem like a sub-par candidate; they don’t know how to cover something as abnormal and unprecedented as the end of the Republic. So for the most part they don’t."

Trump said “I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it.”
But Project 2025 is run by Trump's closest aides, raising concerns about cognitive fitness for a candidate who seems unable to recall those around him.

There. Now can we please stop with the media-driven panic about Biden and get our focus back where it belongs? Direct your fire at Trump and the GOP. You know — the ones threatening to turn the American democratic republic into a theofascist dictatorship.

Remember when embedded midis were the most annoying thing about the internet? At least when you figured out how to mute it, you could then read the entire page without encountering a video ad in between every paragraph while two others popped up from the top and bottom of your screen.

Seriously, I’m half Biden’s age and I decided when I was 35 that I wouldn’t be going to things that started after 8 pm. The morning people are cranky and the staff are exhausted. And I’m a night owl who works second shift by preference and for the good of my clients.

Why are so many men on dating sites incapable of taking photos that don't make them look like serial killers? Like I'm not judging your appearance so much as I'm judging how you present said appearance, and the presentation does not pass a vibe check.

It's such a strange, nebulous thing. It's not a deadname to me. I'm not offended by it. I don't care that it's on my government documents. And I know when my mom chose it for me, she chose with care and love. But it's just... not right for the person I grew up to be.
