I was just looking at Death in the Spires (17 in the Kindle store!) and I saw the AI summary of the reviews: "Readers praise the writing as excellent, grammatically correct, and free of weird words." If ever AI proved it was bullshit. I have never written ANYTHING free of weird words.

Turned out that the freedom of A level self-led learning and lots of coursework wasn't necessarily a recipe for success for someone with ADHD... (unknown at the time, obviously). But the basic grounding has persisted I think.

As with much of that era of SF, conceptually gripping, narratively... sufficient. Haven't watched the show yet, but it's on my radar now that I've caught up with The Expanse. Sweet Tooth S3 is next though.

(Apropos: in the synopsis for my Regency WIP I inadvertently typed there would be a "bug gambling scene", and liked the typo so much I did, in fact, write a bug gambling scene. They raced beetles.)

Signal Boost time. If you've got a creative project you want to promote, leave the details people need in replies, like a title or a link. If it's a crowdfunder pre-launch, let us know 2 weeks out. We'll include as many as we can in this week's issue of The Full Lid.

For a while now I have had this icky feeling that a lot of our use of AI is us just using it to find examples to show each other how bad AI is and TBH I think we should probably all stop doing that cause excessive energy consumption doesn't differentiate between real use and joke use. 😬

Following a Late Triassic mega-monsoon, a Fasolasuchus scavenges the corpse of a Shastasaurid ichthyosaur washed ashore. A trio of Zupaysaurs await their turn at the carcass. A herd of dicynodonts pass along the storm-lashed shoreline. A3 piece for the new book.

Those of a certain vintage were raised with a pervasive Steven Spielberg presence in cinema, but other than recent flawed attempts to reboot Indy, it feels like that's really not part of the culture any more. 'Family' films as a genre have been all but replaced by franchise films.
