I agree 100% about the desensitization. I don’t have a favorite company, but for me the Cody/Roman match was more about closing stories in relation to the bloodline getting their comeuppance than it was nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. That’s why I liked Undertaker coming out instead of Austin.

Wholly shit this is what I was feeling about AEW for a long time. I struggle to remember specific matches. When I went back and watched a bunch of 1993 WWF, even if some of it was sillier, and it wasn't as technically good, I could retell you move for move Brett and Kurt's KotR '93 match.

My example is Cody/Roman at WM 40. I say that’s one of the greatest matches to watch, EVER, specifically because it mixed every-single-element of pro wrestling in perfect harmony. An old fart rating a random AEW “banger” higher than that made me laugh so hard. It’s like…lol no.

Storytelling in pro wrestling is always about having the match be the payoff of the story. When you don’t have a story prior, it’s possible to tell the story during the match. But that requires connecting with your audience on more than just the moves

My tastes are changing. I’m a fan of ring awareness and psychology and there’s a lot of stuff out there where these things are not happening, all for the sake of high spots and “bangers” meant to look cool. Jazz solos can be the same way when artists fly up and down keys. Technical masturbation.

I'm not sure what replaced it though. Is it confidence? Understanding? Some undefined profound realization that having a crush is not the same as being in love, and to be loved I need to do entirely different work on myself? Maybe? But it feels so good to realize it.

I've built up some terrible habits over the years, especially in the realm of unrequited love. Holding a candle for someone, and holding onto that hope of that love being returned, was something I've done for like, ever. Incredibly self-torturous and destructive. But that hope has been replaced

It's not easy, I'm not announcing any goals and such. But recognizing that I didn't love and respect myself in the way I ought to, turned my life around. A lot of things I was doing from a mental standpoint have fallen by the wayside. My mind feels clearer than it has in years.

I know I sometimes get a little personal on here, and this is no different. I had a real reckoning of a time with seeing pictures of myself from an outing last weekend. I outright hated how I looked. So much that I started the process of something I should've done ages ago - learn to love myself.
