this is one of my least favorite tropes and it is especially ridiculous when the heroes have just shot their way through an army of mooks to get to the villain
oh, you can kill 475 henchmen but the guy who is actually responsible for ordering them around is a step too far? do you hear yourself?

New Plymouth landlord Arun Chaudhari wants to make more money by selling a game about how landlords make money.
Also, "Chaudhari [...] said A PORTION of any profits made from the sale of the game would go to charity." [my emphasis]
What 'portion', motherfucker?

It's exactly what they were proposing - development/densification in town was going to be cheaper, now there's no price signal, just do what you want and the ratepayers will pay for it.

There are 90K people here, and the council is giving $90K subsidy to property developers for every new house... every new house is costing us $1 each (plus cost of capital) that has to be cut elsewhere on the budget, so someone can have another luxury home away from the hoi polloi

Today, the same newspaper is outraged that the council pools are going to charge OAPs an extra $30 (160->190) for a swimming pass this year, and I'm just stunned at the lack of "connect these two stories" in the newspaper

Yep, in Taranaki, property developers get to choose to build outside of town but ask ratepayers for $90K subsidy per house for extending the utilities out to them

This pattern repeats across HOAs, companies, volunteer organisations, non-profits, economies and governments and I feel like we need some magic formula for disarming these people before they get any taste forpower.

Oh man, I want to do this on every single one of your posts lately.
I spent five years learning-too-late about Narcissistic Personality Disorder (and others) and how they seek out power and ruin previously-working things while trying to make themselves look good and it seems relevant

This is the only sane AI strategy in 2024: "we remain flexible in responding to technological developments, [but] we hope to continue to deliver value that is unique to us and cannot be achieved through technology alone."

A comedy AND (gory) action movie that's about getting out of an abusive relationship. And that wasn't a subtle subtext - that was the plot!
The movie Renfield is great!

I'm amazed that the S&P500 doesn't drop when the Supreme Court announces it's decisions. Like, all these people investing their pension funds into the U.S. where the legal theme is "it's ok for the richest people to do whatever they want to you and your money, no consequences for them, suck it up"

this is so that when they tell the ambulance crew what medications they are on, they can pronounce it right, amazing how many people can't say names of generic medicines like paraseatanol or ibububuprofen properly but they know how many viagras they've taken and how to pronounce that

Having supported users who never back anything up and don't even know what a hard drive is, the "default to using OneDrive" option in Windows 11 is actually a valuable public service. It will also help countless police investigations of people who think they have destroyed evidence

There are too many people who think joy is a zero-sum game, and that if they just take enough joy from others, maybe they'll get more.
I like that they tried to use words like nerd and geek to steal our joy in our teens and instead we joyfully took that name to describe ourselves.
