Oh man I'm def gonna watch this cuz I have been through the ENTIRE cycle. "Wait... WHY do we hate her, though?" was part of my literal feminist awakening as a teen.

Watching it now. It seems really good. Mind you, I wasn't expecting to have any disagreement. To me, Yoko is why we have the B-52s. I'd like a Yoko, but it's too late for that I suspect.

The Yoko Ono hate is so weird and it's racial, too. Between Lennon and Ono, people think ONO is the problematic one????

I do have doubts about her taste in men, but that hardly seems like my business

Somehow, magically, it's always a woman that breaks up all-male bands, not their own dudely dysfunction.

Certainly put a lot of current fandom discourse in perspective, doesn't it?

I'm still annoyed that I didn't know how great her art is until well into adulthood.

The vitriol folks had for her. I grew up wondering if it was because she was an Asian Woman. I still cannot shake that sentiment that misogyny and xenophobia are at play. I will give this a thorough watch.

I was reminded recently that a little under 9 years ago, I was lucky enough to go to MoMA and see the exhbition of her collected works. Yoko Ono is a fascinating woman. John Lennon was an abusive prick.

Celebrity Lore tends to be beyond what catches my attention. If I like a song, I listen to more. I don't know details like member bios & personal lives unless Overheard Online. The whole Yoko Hate I dismissed as a kid. It was always someone rabidly going "she ruined music rawr hiss!" & uh, ...nah

I've almost finished watching it and she's clarified much of what I've picked up piecemeal over time. I've known for a while that Ono wasn't the cause for the split, but Lindsay's done a great job exploring the deep roots of it and the crap Ono had handed, and how we keep going it.

One thing I really liked about the essay was talking about Yoko's art in a way that actually engages with it. So many people just kind of take avant garde art at face value and just assume the artist is bad at art

I definitely bought into the whole "Yoko broke up the band, look how weird she is" mentality when I was growing up and it took me longer than I'm proud to admit to finally catch on that "ohhhh, it's because her being an Asian woman made her the easiest scapegoat"

I'm looking forward to watching this. The Yoko essay that opened my eyes was Cara's 2008 series on her blog thecurvature, which is still up even if the links are occasionally broken

I boldly assumed that Beetles fans in general knew what they were talking about. In retrospect, this was reckless beyond measure, and one should never assume such a thing.

Top tier video, it even references the Bill Burr rant (the only reason I thought I knew anything about Yoko Ono).

I’m pretty sure almost everything I know about her is second hand, like the way some guys fake having a personality by hating pumpkin spice or cats.

It wasn't part of my awakening but I do remember being very bemused why everyone seemed to have something against this Asian women whose worst crimes seemed to be being a bit odd and being married to John Lennon

I was so mad as a teen to find out she was this radical performance artist but all I’d ever heard was her supposed bank breakup sins. The Tate Britain is currently running an exhibit on her work and I’m hoping that means maybe the narrative is finally healing
