When the education and cult of personality around these industries push people past their limits and boundaries as an expectation, it gets ingrained so much in the culture. you need to be ultra aware that your name, your exp is *POWER*, and people are conditioned to say yes.

power dynamics especially bring out the worst in people - and often times people in creative spaces with this power dont like to acknowledge it, especially if those spaces used to be more niche or nerdy - like animation or comics. Turning a blind eye makes it easier to abuse.

There are plenty of people in the industry who were fun, respectful, and encouraging to me and treated those around them like shit. It is only through letting them get away with that behavior do they even have room to even foster sincere relationships that are held up as the 'good' example.

Reminds me that I’ve discovered Mourning Cloak butterfly caterpillars have happily been stripping leaves off of a non-native ornamental willow tree in my yard. I had planned to pull it out, but I’ve moved it way down on my invasive/non-native plant-removal priority list because of this discovery.
