Sotomayor's dissent is chilling: "When [the president]...orders the Navy’s Seal Team 6 to assassinate a political rival? Immune. Organizes a military coup to hold onto power? Immune. Takes a bribe in exchange for a pardon? Immune. Immune, immune, immune."
So to be clear: if the us-president (as of now: Joe Biden) orders a navy seals team to kill his oponnent (as of now: Donald Trump), he is immune.
If I were Trump, I would upgrade my Bodyguards...
I find myself thinking about how , upon Trump's first election, we were told by all the cool heads that were guardrails, norms, cabinet and staff, etc., that would hold him in check.
Feels so... quaint.
On the bright side, this is a green light for Biden to de-classify every part of every investigation into Trump, expose all his tax returns and private messages, seize all his assets as part of a brand new investigation into his connections with Russia.....
He'd have to fire Garland first though.
Translation: If Trump had just used his "official" power to throw a coup, and overthrow the Constitution, then this SCOTUS would have said that its A-Okay. If Trump takes office again, he won't leave, and he will point to this decision to justify all his aggrandizements of power to stay in office.
