This is a wild change. Pondering it. Two questions - 1) why still the old pipe? 2) ways to add more viz to the lessons after ggplot?

Today @thecarpentries.bsky.social released a new version of their lesson. I really like this redesign which has focused on a "cake first" approach that quickly gets students producing rewarding data visualizations. 🌎 🧪

Me: OK! AC on to keep me from getting warm and sleepy! Time to bust out some good writing! Cat: Hey, uh, put on your fleece work vest. I'm going to crawl inside and fall asleep while purring. I'm sure it won't affect you at all.....

🌊🌱🔊 Certain sounds occur more commonly in seagrass than in sandy habitats. “Fish make low-pitched grunting, burping or purring noises. Crabs make higher-pitched metallic sort of scraping sounds.” 🦑🌍

This is brilliant! Uh, no one would want a marine biology consult, huh? Haha.

Biding their time. At low tide, the voracious sea stars retreat to a wave-washed surge channel, but their high-tide ferocity is evident in the bare zone on the shore above them. 🌊⭐️🍽️ #MarineLife #Invertebrate 🦑🌿

Nature can be rather disturbing at times, but amazing too!

Here are a couple of examples of entomopathogenic fungi I've seen across New Zealand - that's fungi which infect and kill invertebrates (yep, 'The Last of Us' style).

Can you tell what the unfortunate hosts were?

was working on a plot in R earlier this afternoon — this is not even close to what I was trying to do, but I like the accidental art #rstats

Ever needed to generate multiple vectors with a complex set of correlations. This is R so of course there is a package for that. Queue {faux} and the rnorm_multi() function.

I'm happy that the paper about my class on Historically Excluded and Underrepresented Scientists is now published. When I get back from Alaska, I will put the syllabus and other materials on my website and link to that here on Bluesky. In the meantime, enjoy! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Sometimes it feels like nothing is changing: as if we’re climbing the tallest mountain in the world, and the summit is no closer than when we started. But if we stop for a minute and turn around and look back, we can see how far we’ve actually come. Progress is happening, step by step.
