#FantasyIndiesJuly Scavats is an unagul--a giant carnivorous ram rooster with venomous spurs. Unaguls are not domesticated, and he's the only tame one anyone has ever met. Zaya and Miyarki successfully hatched him, and when they tried to release him, he kept coming home until they let him stay.

#QueerPrompts I was going to say I have no idea how to approach this, but let's say Zaya knew about real world celebrities. I think she'd really enjoy Jeremy Wade, the River Monsters guy.

Even back then, I remember being stunned by how cruel people could be--often the "good" family. I hate to think how hard it would be to watch now.

I get so anxious about the idea of someone leaving my home hungry, and there will always at least be snacks and drinks available. I've slowly realized over the years there are a number of stories behind why this matters so much to me.

#FantasyIndiesJuly Not gonna lie, I struggled over this quite a bit. There is not capitalism in the fantasy WIP, but there is commerce. Trade is extremely common, and coinage and specific currency is highly localized, but assorted precious metals, gems, and other items are commonly accepted.

Found a new PCP at a practice that is all nurse practitioners, so no one there can legally prescribe painkillers. And my honest reaction was that no one was ever going to believe me or help me with my pain, at least they can't instead of just won't.

#FantasyIndiesJuly Sometimes you've gotta go with a classic. I wanted to be a mermaid as a kid, and I would still like to be a mermaid.

...I'm not going to worry too much about how much I dislike eating fish and assume if I got to be a mermaid, that would work out ok.

I sometimes see people discuss the American left as being intrinsically self-sabotaging, and it feels like any discussion that doesn't factor in the extent to which the mainstream reflexively shuts out and frequently actively crushes leftist activism is wilfully naive.

This is what I mean. It is not the case that the majority of crime writers, horror writers, and so forth are themselves violent people in real life. Writing "dark" work but not committing evil acts is the norm. It isn't the exception.

Boeing is pleading guilty to a fraud that killed over 300 people. Their punishment is fines. At least one person made a decision to perpetuate this fraud, so why is nobody going to jail? If corporations have the same rights as people, they should face the same criminal liabilities as well.

#QueerPrompts Zaya is a capable, friendly monster hunter who is literally known as a hero. She probably wouldn't just survive, but would help other people make it, too.

Aleksani literally did survive an apocalypse that wiped the entire taiga off the world and out of everyone else's memories.

#QueerPrompts I think this would make a bigger difference in Zaya than swapping her gender. She's comfortably queer and an unapologetic flirt and wife gal. I think changing her sexuality would fundamentally change her in ways it's difficult to pinpoint.

This would be a very different question if the story happened in a different world. One where Zaya had to fight to get to be a warrior instead of one where of course her dad taught her how to hunt monsters. One where Aleksani was a princess instead of an academic. But it doesn't.

#QueerPrompts I've thought about it all day, and I'm not sure much would change about any of the characters in the fantasy WIP if their genders changed. Mostly because the world doesn't have sexism, homophobia, transphobia, etc. They are all themselves. They still could be if their genders changed.

They mean well, but even if someone is blind, you can't know if they read Braille unless you ask. And that's just it. Assuming you can help and doing a thing instead of asking means you can just as easily inconvenience or harm as actually help. Meaning well does not absolve you of harm done

...Braille is a tactile language for blind people, and one that is never taught to many people who could benefit from it. If you are Deaf, you would benefit from a Braille menu as much as any sighted person. It's offering a menu someone has no way to read and thinking you did something good.
