I've always thought that working at the local library must be the greatest job ever! (Unfortunately, where I am, certain people are working hard to ban certain books, so I feel bad for the county librarians. They're putting up a good fight, though!)

Watching the GOP reaction to the Supreme Court's "immunity" decision has been instructive.
These folks don't "fear" Trump, as we've been told.
They want a dictator. They may personally despise him and his smell. But he's their best shot at fascism.

Based on that, I have the utmost confidence that you'll love Project Hail Mary. I enjoyed The Martian too but if I had to choose between the two, Hail Mary wins, hands down. Ray Porter, the narrator, is fantastic, and the story has a lot of heart and humor.

Andy Weir accomplished this quite nicely in The Martian. Not exactly protagonist vs. antagonist, but Mark Watney (the "Martian") was first person POV while the people on Earth trying to rescue him was in third person.
