To give a modern and a classic: Ron Currie, Jr. is the guy who now has many books under his belt yet remains depressingly underrated in experimental literary fiction. Gregory MacDonald’s Fletch books are clinics in clever, precise writing. Want character-strong sci-fi under 100 pages.

One of these days, I'm gonna do what Topher Grace did to the Star Wars prequels, but for the first three Michael Bay TransFormers movies. Just gonna be a two-hour story about robots who have beef, and occasionally Shaia LaBeef runs through the background screaming. No human dialogue.

What's odd about this true fact is that the big influence of Japanese pop culture & how it's expressed in "fandoms" ties directly to what conservatives perceive as "woke doctrine" in young people. But they spend all day attacking queer middle grade novels that sell 4K copies instead of Sailor Moon.

Plus, superheroes are big metaphors at their heart, so when you try to do "real world" shit with them, you always end up getting Doctor Doom crying over 9/11. Really inspiring stuff.

it's actually extremely funny that we were told we can't use Wikipedia for research in the early 2000s but Wikipedia may be the only reason we even have a somewhat coherent historical record of culture and events from the last 25 years or so and will probably be needed to create future history texts

One smaller piece of the great Donald Sutherland's legacy is that Joss Whedon hated him because he insisted on goofing around and playing the part of Merrick broad and silly. But Sutherland was right, and movie Buffy is far superior because it doesn't take its shit too seriously. Don't @ me.

My kid and I keep growing new things in the planter boxes in our driveway. My goal is to have a nice salad by the end of the summer, but we never quite get there. Carrot muffins last year, tho. Cucumbers are hard!
