"The polling found that 6% of people said the ID requirements had affected their decision on whether or not to vote and that they then did not vote, which if reflected nationally could mean up to 2.8 million people not voting when they might otherwise have done." This affects the "turnout" figures.

Urgh that’s rubbish. Dread to think how many overseas voters have been left out. For next time you can get a postal proxy in the UK; your proxy doesn’t need to be in your constituency. Marginally more reliable than overseas post 😬

Exactly this. Voting is a reflection of the reality of life which involves compromises and empathy with others even if you don’t always agree with them. Unless you’re an island of one and entirely self-sufficient.

I'll still campaign for a form of PR. I don't like what it's produced in NL, but I still think it's a more democratic system and better that extremists are forced to show their hand in public, not influence a party behind closed doors. bsky.app/profile/iand...

He's absolutely right. Electoral reform is long overdue. What's bemused me is the amount of journos & right wing politicians suddenly discovering that the system is unfair and having a pop at parties who have played a blinder with their FPTP strategy.

Bemused by the handwringing over the size of the Labour majority and the low vote share. You can't blame Labour & Lib Dems for playing the FPTP game - or the electorate for voting tactically. There's a reason we've been pushing for PR, but if it's not there then we'll play the game we've got 🤷‍♀️

Project 2025 is a nearly 1000-page step-by-step playbook that would turn America into an authoritarian nightmare and shred our freedoms. Trump can try to distance himself from it but it was put together by more than 20 officials he appointed in his first term. Don't be fooled.
