ICMYI I wrote about the importance of being a citizen archivist. We've seen so much incredible art and writing from marginalized people, and we need to preserve it in the face of a huge, well-funded backlash.
This is something concrete you personally can do!

I cannot get over that a woman is writing both Action Comics and Uncanny X-Men this month, and IT'S THE SAME WOMAN.
Wild. More of this, please.

This morning I've come to an important realization:
We have a dehydrator, so I can make my own cheese powder so I can make any food instantly cheese-y.
I'm so excited to go on this journey with all of you. Thank you for your continued support.

It is 9am and this day is already MEASURABLY GOOD.
I'm ready to call it right now. Just go to sleep until midnight so there's no chance for it to reverse directions
Days work like that, right?

ugh, that is fucked.
I hope he doesn't internalize it. And, if that's the kind of call this place would make, it might be a blessing to not be there for the long term (even though that's a hard blessing to see in the current job environment).

That's so awesome!
My library in Wellington is the first one I've ever visited who had this scale of MAKER stuff. It's all in one tiny room, but it is just so awesome to see it there as an outlet for the community.

I've seen the murmurs! Based on everything she has ever said in public about her aspirations in life I truly cannot imagine it happening.
But, I suppose she's the one person who absolutely could win and also has zero aspirations for 2028.
(Personally, I'm against the idea of political dynasties.)

The list of candidates beyond VP Harris isn't long.
Newsom, Whitmer, & Shapiro feel like 2028 potentials; all messaged in support of Biden.
Surely KY Beshear, MD Moore, GA Warnock, CO Polis are contemplating 2028.
OH Brown could have aspirations. MN Klobuchar usurping Harris would be awkward.

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places but I haven't seen writing about how the "Replace Biden" call is weak within the DEM party in part because likely suspects were planning for 2028 and are now weighing if they're willing to risk their political capital (to fail in the call or in the Election)

I see we're absolved from tipping you off about Chappell Roan π, which takes out my OBVIOUS best new track of 2024 ("Good Luck, Babe!").
I'll go with my #2: Orville Peck featuring Midland - "The Hurtin' Kind"

Charter schools are almost always a scam. I've watched them fail to achieve their stated goals repeatedly in the US.
Private schools exist to serve people with needs that can't or won't be served in the public school system, but the government shouldn't be handing out any tax breaks for using them

Yeah, I'm severely impacted too, Bryce.
You have no idea what my experience was in the US and with schools there, why I came to NZ, my student's experience in NZ schools, or what I'll sacrifice to enable my student to be in a private school.
You're just online to talk piss. Clearly.

I love them so damn much.
I want to get through another 10 records and have this be my reward.
My ever-growing Best of 2024 list is up on RYM, but so far it's focused only on new LPs from artists I know rateyourmusic.com/list/krisis/...

Kinda in the Arts & Crafts category, but maybe some basic home science experiments? Just stuff you can do with kitchen materials. My now 10YO has always loved doing that stuff, and it becomes an EVENT that a whole day anchors around (especially if you plan to make something change color or explode)

Up to HAIL TO THE THIEF in my Radiohead/Coldplay hybrid listen with @vapoursnake.bsky.social, and HOT DAMN what a record to listen to today:
Maybe you'll be president
But know right from wrong
Or in the flood you'll build an ark
And sail us to the moon

Kinda wild how people are living for this Charli XCX record (which I am digging) but TOTALLY SLEPT on the equally great Icona Pop record last year.
Seriously, if you like the Charli record, go back for the Icona record.

Literally saw a TikTok awhile back where someone was interviewing tattoo artists, asking "What's the most stereotypical Millennial tattoo?", and two different artists answered "Harry Potter tat cover-up."

At Moore Wilson's just now, the cashier admired my Trader Joe's grocery bags and asked how long I've been in NZ.
"Coming up on 7 years," I told her.
"Oh, well, you're a Kiwi then," she replied with a little smile.
Readers, I cried out in the Moore Wilson's parking lot.

I am going to share this every month until people get the goddamned message, and agitate for better policy and infrastructure.
It's estimated that we spend 80-90% of our time indoors, on average. Indoor spaces should be fit for purpose, especially when in-person attendance is mandatory/unavoidable.

All kinds of anxiety, too! Everything from "the risk of failure is too great" to "the level of cringe is too high"

I'm coming up on 7yrs, and even though it was under different circumstances and with different preparations than you, I've had the same struggles.
