Lately, journalists have asked if scientists didn't warn us enough, or didn't know how bad climate change would be.

Scientists did their jobs. It's fossil fuel companies who lied about climate impacts FOR DECADES. They're to blame for these heat waves.

That is astonishing and revolting. I mean, I'm 54, and I have lived my entire adult life trying to reduce my carbon footprint and raise awareness, and I'm just a bog standard non-scientist. How many more flags and alarm bells ddi they need? Are they trying to *blame climate scientists*?!

But for decades, you couldn't get climate scientists to make a definitive statement. It was, "A heat wave is not evidence. because weather is not climate," or "We can't say with absolutely certainty, but..." for DECADES. Scientists hate absolutes, but they screwed the messaging for a mass audience.

It's politicians who were bribed by corporations, and apathetic, willingly ignorant voters who are as much at fault as the corporations. We got what we asked for.

That's why there should have been strong regulations in place, because one simply must expect that capitalists would be lying for profit from the outset.

Not to mention politicians who gladly parroted these lies as a convenient campaign wedge / excuse to coddle big business.

John Vaillantā€™s recent book Fire Weather does an excellent job of chronicling the history of climate change discovery and reaction. I learned a lot!

#ExxonKnew, they all knew, and they lied and cheated and profiteered and polluted and poisoned.

Prosecute, fine, jail and ruin the climate criminals.

I will never forgive Time magazine for claiming an ice age was coming based on the worst case of one of many scenarios and hearing decades of "Lol scientists said an ice age was coming"

Scientists did there jobs. Media "both sides" corporations failed miserably. They pandered to advertisers & completely downplayed the implications of climate change. Many journalists still do. A pox on their houses.

Jesus, in the 70s when I was a kid CHILDREN'S CARTOONS had villains whose most horrible plan was to increase the greenhouse effect and melt the polar ice caps. That's how deep into pop culture the idea was then.

Yes, and those companies even had the most comprehensive data first. It's all proven multiple times, but sadly, denied much more times, and that's the crux right there. If we really want to get ahead on this (@about half past 12) facts should bear more weight, then those who try to bury them.
