It's really hard to shake the feeling that the Democratic political establishment would rather usher in the actual fall of democracy rather than make some guys at the country club dislike them, and the worst thing is: the guys at the country club are openly PLANNING TO MURDER THEM
There’s a tension between the bed wetting Obama Democrats like Psaki and Axelrod, and the harder Biden Democrats who sit on the Biden campaign who are happier to pound Trump into the ground. Angry Biden energizes Democratic voters. Biden knows this. @chrislhayes.bsky.social@jaketapper.bsky.social
After 2017-2021, including 1/6, they're still telling themselves that they don't really mean it.
There's close to a thousand written pages explaining exactly what they're planning to do, and they still don't believe it.
What are either of them gonna say at this point that’s going to change any voter’s mind? Who are these “undecided” voters out there that are gonna listen to their remarks and go, “Gee, i never thought of it that way. Now i understand everything!”
Is that real? Are you undecided and seeking input?
my fear is that they are all compromised by financial crimes (insider trading) and that they look at the possible repercussions for themselves if they go after maga as no worse than what maga is going to poss do to them. not a true patriot in the whole damn bunch
I keep thinking that the Dems keep thinking "Ok, if we're nice on this one last thing, the conservatives will finally shape up and act like adults. They can't possibly keep this up forever!" Despite that, every freaking time they're treated decently, they take that as a reason to get even worse.
They’re more friendly with republicans than with their own voters, so of course the idea that they’d ever have their heads mounted on sticks in front of the Capitol doesn’t even factor in their minds…!
Australian view. Our government is broadly equivalent to the Democrats. They were very reluctant to make any comment. Our right leaning parties owned the narrative painting Trump as a victim. Better to fight on actual issues rather than over an individual and his conviction
"Better Hitler than Blum" was what French right wing folk said & this passivity is just the latest incarnation.
Because Establishment Dems are now right wing folk.
Their corporate/ financial considerations and social networks (these are linked) matter to them more than everything else.
This complaint is really about the limits of a two party system rather than the impossible task of trying to have a single party appeal to everyone not sold on Trump.
Here is a genuine question: do mainstream Democratic politicians think that fascism can be fought, or do they think it is inevitable and they are using us to try and make golden parachutes for themselves
If democrats wanted to make things better they probably would have at some point in the past 60 years. Instead they’ve just been deploying the same “unfortunately we can’t help you this election, but you gotta vote for us to stop the real bad guy” argument since the 1960s.
i think people would care more about the former president's conviction if the current one wasn't funding and arming the most sadistically evil thing happening on earth right now
This is a shortsighted reading. For better or for worse, messaging that appeals to committed liberals and progressives and makes us feel like they're DOING SOMETHING comes off as alarmist and offputting and hysterical to undecideds. It shouldn't, but it does.
