Very frustrating seeing some "see, voting doesn't matter, Dems suck too!" regarding Kathy Hochul, who we actually almost got rid of in 2018 by replacing her in a low-turnout primary with a progressive primary challenger. That voting doesn't matter is the exact opposite of the takeaway here
I guess what I mean is that people are marshalling the Hochul situation to argue that the situation is hopeless and there's no point in engaging beyond protest abstentionism, when we actually could've gotten rid of her if 0.4% more of NY's population had shown up for the primary in 2018
I would never say that voting doesn't matter and I vote in every election no matter how inconsequential, but I don't necessarily blame people for not feeling motivated to vote when Democrats don't use the power voters give them.
Admittedly I probably would not have bothered voting in a New York primary in 2018 if none of my important local races were competitive just so I could influence the lieutenant nomination.
That being said, I wouldn't be able to point to that race retrospectively and say it didn't matter!
What really grinds my gears is when people use "vote blue no matter who hurf hurf hurf" when you talk about primary elections and it's just like, you dumb fucker, this is your chance to pick the blue candidate you actually like.
