Animals seen on #WayUpNorthTrip Day 3:
Various sheep (including a black one), a mama ducks and ducklings crossing the road (the car ahead stopped on the E6 to let them pass), a couple of reindeer and a jumping fish. Plus the Oftenåse hike had a bunch of really adorable and amusing animal statues!

#WayUpNorthTrip Day 3 started with a gloriously calm and sunny morning, and then weather happened. We saw it cutting across the sky after we hiked up to the world's largest garden chair (...), and rain followed us as we went north by car and car ferry. Tonight we sleep indoors! Sunset: 12:38 PM.

Gonna shove the end of my thread on travel with a stoma into my #WayUpNorthTrip tag!

all these fantastic travel experiences without stopping to think about what I can or can't do as an ostomate. I can change bags in the tent! I do have to get up several times a night to empty my bag, but it's fine. And it does mean I see the local sights at beautiful times of night & morning! 6/6

Since I also have a massive hernia, I've got a soft girdle that helps for stuff like hiking up mountains to get great views. And I'm extremely lucky in that all of this is 100% free, and has been picked out specifically for me by a fantastic stoma nurse. It's thanks to that care I can have 5/6

So this is my changing setup in our tent! Since we've got the car I've just packed up the stuff I use at home. I've got one box for supplies, and one for the bags/pouches (since I don't want the skin barrier plates to get misshapen). I brought daily changes, plus a whole bunch extra just in case! 4/

Then last summer we went car camping, and I worked out a system that I was so happy with I had no reservations about doing the same kind of trip again, only longer! I only had 2 bag failures, both easily actioned at a rest stop bathroom with a diaper change station & campsite respectively. 3/?

And of course that affects travel. This is my third summer with my stoma, so at this point I have routine, confidence, and a small intestine that has adapted really well to its new duties. But the first summer after my surgery I only traveled to a cabin with a washer & dryer & my own sheets... 2/?

Ferry wait is for disability awareness! Specifically about car camping while being an #ostomate. Due to fantastic, free stoma supplies from my healthcare system I'm basically living the same life I would as if I still had a colon, but I can't deny that I AM entirely dependent on those supplies. 1/?

#WayUpNorthTrip One of my favorite things about going to Norway is crossing the border. This was yesterday, on the E14 from Åre. The border is marked by a little cairn, and you know you're entering Norway because a sign says so. Also the lines in the middle of the road go from white to yellow! 🇸🇪🇳🇴

#WayUpNorthTrip has brought us from the banks of Lake Orsa in Sweden to the edge of a fjord in Norway. We crossed mountains, saw dramatic weather, encountered sheep (with lambs!) on the road, and pulled over for a spontaneous hike involving several swaying suspension bridges...! Sunset: 11:18 PM.

#WayUpNorthTrip Day 1 was a success! We outran the rain, the restaurant we booked for dinner served truly delicious food, and our chosen campsite is well appointed and comfortable without being industrial sized and crowded. And the views...! Fields and forests and low mountains and lakes. Ahhh!

#WayUpNorthTrip so far:

In the local supermarket parking lot, looked at the forecast and decided not to go to Norway today! The alternative route through Sweden will hopefully let us camp dry.

At 4PM, picked between two routes, found tonight's campsite and made dinner reservations in Mora. 🥰

Sweden also has a six week limit on campaigning! (Our elections are every four years on the last Sunday of September, so don't need to be called.) Can confirm it's VERY nice.

Vacation mode very much activated: had a friend over for a wonderful time of treating ourselves to good food, playing boardgames (Wingspan is so much fun!), and watching my favorite anime of the season (Dungeon Meshi) together. And now we're packing and planning and then tomorrow: road trip!!

Probably for "Classics" reason, but you'd have to ask the guy who said it! (Who was so abysmal that he stood down as MP before the election rather than get his ass handed to him.)

Also not going to lie, the last year has been particularly challenging for us as a family, involving several trips to hospital for a loved one's very concerning situation and other shenanigans I can't talk about but which have taken a toll on mental health and finances. Subscribing would help both.

Listening to audiobooks I always long for a written dramatis personae to have on hand. How are character names spelled? My brain craves that knowledge. It feels weird and wobbly to just guess. (This is one of many reasons I keep subtitles on even for languages I understand.)

Worth waking up early to see such brilliant news from the UK. YES, out fuckers, out! Particularly delighted at the voters who finally got rid of Victorian venereal disease Reese-Mogg. (I lived in England for five long Tory years and had to leave because Brexit, so feelings are very personal here.)
