British politics still has a sense of the absurd about it. I mourn that for all we former colonies took from them politically, we failed to recognise this as an important part. And so we all forgot that an important part of maintaining democracy was having a system that allowed you to openly mock it

Was the ventriloquist guy in Topgear once in the 00s or was that some other guy in a weird suit? I remember everyone acting like that's just how some British politicians dress so I just accepted it at face value, thinking, "maybe this is just the last vestige of some custom that's unfamiliar to me"
