Or collapse. That’s another route.

This is a decent summary of late stage capitalism population health, but it misses the developmental impacts of smart phones and the chronic health impacts of COVID. Which is weird, but maybe predictable.

We’re spending money on the wrong things, because we are prioritizing the wrong threats.

In memory of Dr. Ruth Reck, who passed away yesterday, I'm sharing this article detailing her early (1960s) work as a pioneering climate scientist at General Motors Research Labs--including early warnings (then summarily dismissed) on CO2 & global warming.

How much of global warming is human-caused, as opposed to natural? MORE THAN 100% That’s right: according to natural factors, including the sun and natural cycles, the Earth should be slowly, gradually cooling right now. That’s why humans are responsible for all observed warming and then some.

This is the reason I became a climate scientist: because of how urgent and how unfair this issue is. As a Christian, I believe that we are not called to love money or power, but rather each other and all living things that share our home.

If the economic damages of climate change are at least 6x > the cost of mitigation (and probably much more imho), why aren’t we acting like it? Because it’s not about economics: it’s about injustice. Those who hold the balance of power + wealth are not those who bear the brunt of the impacts.

If you're in the Toronto area you won't want to miss the premiere of Here, Now. It's a new doc that captures both the simultaneous, global nature of climate change and the deeply human resilience, resourcefulness & courage needed to confront it. Two screenings, Apr 26 and May 1. Highly recommended!

A Holland America cruise ship carrying 300 Americans among its 1,200 passengers - with four dead and about 200 sick aboard - pleads with Florida to let it dock. Gov DeSantis: "We cannot afford to have people who are not even Floridians dumped into South Florida using up those valuable resources."

A society ought to earn the right to an April Fools’ Day by generally being able to sort fact from fiction given a bit of time, and American society has not been meeting the requirements since 2015 or so.
