Snopes is such horseshit.
The claim that Trump was only talking about people at the Confederate statue protest when he referred to "very fine people" ignores that it was exclusively white supremacists at the statue protest.
He literally SAID that.
I saw it. Funny enough, on both CNN and (later in the night) FOX News.
What happened to Snopes? They were on point for a long time, now they're just garbage like everything else.
He literally didn’t call Nazis very fine people, he just said that Nazis were moved to do their own thing by these pesky others that are always harming society, it’s you that’s up in arms by not understanding the specifics of these threats, you stupid fucking idiot
They're doing the thing mainstream media does as well, where they're hoping that if they bend over backwards to be "fair" to Trump and his ilk, they'll gain credibility with them, which is just fucking silly at this point. Fact checks only matter to people who care about facts. That ship has sailed.
the fucking “Cotton pointed to peaceful protests and said they should be shot but later he said he only meant violent protesters, neener neener” shit again
this is a Scott Adams hobbyhorse, isn't it? something he constantly rants about. and Snopes has staked out the same side of that argument as Scott Adams. ok then!
The people marching to the statues on the Friday night before the full blown violence on Saturday is where the “Jews will not replace us” footage is from. This fact check is saying the people chanting that were not neo nazis and white supremacist
“…he also condemned neo-Nazis and white nationalists outright and said he was specifically referring to those who were there only to participate in the statue protest.”
…all of whom on the pro-statue side were either white nationalists or neo-Nazis.
//We looked into these claims, and found that while Trump did say there were "very fine people on both sides," meaning both the protesters and the counterprotesters//
Oh so snopes is just deciding what people meant? That's not fact checking, that's opinion.
For this fact check to be true, there would have to be three "sides", not two. *Trump* said there were two sides, and both of the sides had very fine people. That statement *necessarily* includes neo-nazis and white supremacist. Infuriating.
If you take Trump at his word that he wasn't referring to the Nazis and white supremacists when he was saying "very fine people," you have to imagine there were people in this group who weren't white supremacists.
Trump: "I'm not talking about the neo-Nazis and the white nationalists, because they should be condemned totally. But you had many people ... other than neo-Nazis and white nationalists"
So he's confused or outright lying about the makeup of the protest. Still, useful context from Snopes.
Biden said the very fine people incident was when he decided to run against Orange Very Fine Person.
So I'm guessing there's going to be another round of "Therefore Biden should step aside" nonsense. 🙄
