I think More Tories is what he wanted - Widdecombe being their main surrogate to wheel out on telly as a way of projecting ‘far right but not like the BNP’ whilst doing a ground game that’s basically straight up indulging conspiracy theories in pub function rooms.

I find him fascinating - he’s clearly very likeable, and I think quite sincere, but he is both a politician and someone who seems broadly uninterested in stories at which he personally isn’t in the dead centre.

Yes I did. Laid out it’s staggering. But then I look at Portillo and Osborne and Stewart, and yeah, if you aren’t actually outwardly a Lizard Person, you can basically lead the most absurdly charmed life post politics.
