"Gaffes" covers quite a few things about Biden, but what he did this debate is different. He didn't lift a British pol's personal history, boast about his nonexistent academic standing, endorse same-sex marriage before his boss, say BFD, or gush about segregationist senators. He just fell apart.

I'm willing to believe he was up 7 in this pre-debate Emerson poll. That would be on par with Hochul in 2022. No chance of losing statewide but kills all those House races Dems hoped to take back. Of course he's probably lost ground post debate.

Lifelong? Play a Biden clip from any year, he never stutters. If he had it in childhood it is gone forever. This is part of the Biden myth to make his deterioration more sympathetic. Nothing in that debate was stuttering—getting stuck on consonants. And 12 years ago and more he was totally glib:

What "stuttering"? He has filled pauses when he loses his train of thought, he murmurs, he mumbles, he trails off, he veers into non sequitur. There was not one stutter in that whole debate. What kind of stutter makes you talk about immigrant crime when asked about abortion?

Right, no one voted for him, just against Trump, because reelection campaigns are a pure incumbent referendum, the challenger isn't a factor. Unfortunately that will be true again this time, but now it's a pure up or down on Biden, and Trump will not be a factor :(

I would say only by offering a vision for the future, but I agree with her about Harris. Anyone else and it's the administration throwing in the towel, which is a Dem forfeit. Biden’s problem is, with his visible limits, he is going to have a hard time convincing people he can lead into the future.
