I'm in the Alex Toth camp of "Strip it down to the bear essentials and use what's left" mindset. I've learned most 'character designs' now, if only as a blacked out silhouette, can't be distinguished from others. There's a reason why most legacy characters have iconic silhouettes & why it works.

It's funny because I always say designing for movies is NOT the same as designing for comics, because in movies you don't have to draw the same thing over and over again. I guess that applies to animation too, maybe more so!
