Congratulations to the Green Party on winning four seats - I know many people who wanted to vote for them but who decided to vote tactically - I think it could have been a much bigger night for them

Like remembering that before unions, a lot of folks worked 6 or 7 days a week, it's worth remembering that before environmental movements, the air and water in a lot of places were fucking gross. Left to their own devices, companies just straight-up poisoned people. They will again if we let them.

Point, but i still feel that in a superhero-supervillain world, realistically there would be enormous political pressure on the courts to sentence supervillains to death. It shouldn't *have* to be all on Batman (or whoever).

Having looked at the details: Decatur, Georgia, you’re up right now, they are actively recruiting there! Mineola, New York, you’re on deck, they’ve got you listed but flagged as ‘not yet recruiting’. The intranasals look to be our best hope(s) for a sterilising covid vaccine, so this is important!

I honestly don't see why that has to be Batman's responsibility. 🤔I don't think vigilantes should be judge, jury, and executioner. What seems so unrealistic is that a world where the Joker exists wouldn't have had him executed decades ago.

I always want to stand up for the mooks' right to live...however, i guess narratively the difference tends also to be that the mooks are killed in the heat of battle, but once you corner the maim villain, the battle is pretty much won, so it's perceived more as killing in cold blood (i.e. murder) 🤔

Gintama Flower Suite, Part 30
In the end what else could it be? We end this series of flower-themed Gintama art with Shoyo-sensei and cherry blossoms.
Perhaps this is predictable - but I think sometimes simple is the best way to go. 🥹🌸📗

10/ His employees are a teenage boy, Shinpachi, who is a stereotypical otaku (fan of geek culture) whose sister works at a hostess club, and an alien girl named Kagura, who dresses as if she were Chinese but is super-strong and comes from the most bloodthirsty clan of aliens.

9/ Gintoki, the main character of GIntama, is a former samurai who fought in the rebellion but now runs an odd jobs company constantly on the verge of bankruptcy. He wears a bokken instead of a sword, but is deadly with it. He lives at his office, above his landlady's bar.

8/ Also, a lot of aliens move to Edo and live among the Japanese people. In the timeline of the show, there's a samurai rebellion that lasts ten years and is ultimately quashed by the aliens. The survivors either surrender or become rogue terrorist cells, highly outlawed and constantly on the run.

7/ The aliens end the Shogunate, forbid the samurai class from wearing swords (bokken are OK), with the exception of a police force called the Shinsengumi (which actually existed in this era in our timeline and on the show use the same names as actual Shinsengumi members).

6/ Enter the anime series Gintama. In the timeline of the show, instead of Americans showing up in Edo, aliens from dozens of different planets show up in Edo, and forcibly open up Japan to trade with lots of planets in the galactic community. Japan is flooded with space-age technology.

1/ One of my favorite alternate history stories in any genre is the classic anime series Gintama. You need to know some Japanese history to understand the premise (although I'm hardly an expert in Japanese history). In the 16th century, the Japanese encountered the Portuguese, and later the Dutch.

A new comic by Scott Scott McCloud has been released in Japan. I was very impressed when I read 「understanding comics」, so I'm very happy to be able to read Scott McClouds comics in Japanese again.

I preferred to eat alone for a long time. I didn't realise that others viewed it as antisocial, but they did. Just another thing in what is likely a long list of things I did to look after myself that others actively judged me for and about which silently withdrew themselves from me.

Anyway you should read Scott McCloud’s Understanding Comics. It is a remarkable achievement. One of the greatest comics ever made is the comic about what comics are (roughly)

when it comes to Scott McCloud “Understanding Comics,” the fun part is also that McCloud went on to make “Reinventing Comics” and “Making Comics,” which are all important books

There's an ancient short comic about this that got published in RAW a long time ago. It was the only issue of RAW I bought, I should check to see if I still have it... Can't remember who made it.

Gintama Flower Suite, pt 29: Kamchatka Lily for Takasugi Fritillaria camschatcensis (a.k.a "Kamchatka lily", "Kamchatka fritillary", "rice lily") is native to northwestern North America and northeastern Asia, including northern Japan. In Japanese flower symbolism, it stands for "love, curse".
