Hey! Historians of American higher ed.: got any use for a visiting graduate student's notes for classes in American history taught at Harvard in 1949-50? I'm going through my mother's papers; she took courses from Schlesinger, Morrison, Albion & others. Took detailed lecture notes. Of interest?

Really interesting hearing UK commentators talking about the need to reform their system away from FPTP. Not sure if it will ever change, but it will be another interesting thing to watch.

One thing I'll be interested to watch is what happens with the independents, especially those who took labour seats. I assume they will generally support Labour but it could be an interesting dynamic.

Labour has officially won a majority, now we'll see how big it goes (and how bad it gets for the Torries).

Watching two functioning democracies vote in the last week (France and the UK), is giving me some hope for the immediate future. Something that's helped though is talking dad into going and working for a candidate to help deal with electoral anxiety.

I'm incredibly bullish on America's future. I get it's a bit hard to see these days--the death throes of unpopular authoritarianism is pretty scary and there are real problems in the immediate term--but I definitely think America's best days are still very much ahead.

Something interesting that's happened in a few constituencies is that Labour split the vote in winnable elections with independents or minor parties, leading to Tory wins and in at least one seat a Tory gain. Labour is going to win, but it seems like another election showing the need for RCV.

I am a bit surprised at just how bad of a night this is looking to be for the SNP. We knew it was going to be bad after the complete mess that was the end of Nicola Sturgeon's leadership, but I didn't expect it to be a complete destruction as it looks like it will be.

It looks like it may be a real form but maybe filed by a troll. The Trump campaign profile on the FEC website doesn't have this document and the committee link seems to go to a dead webpage. Could be real, but my suspicion is troll at the moment.

I totally think organizing and fighting to make the world better instead of giving up is worth it. I’m even excited to do it for the people who are mad at me for saying so and have already said they’d abandon me and my family to “the camps” they keep talking about 🤪

(I. E. Reforming the Senate into a PR rather than land based body), and enshrining more rights. This is perhaps due to an overly aspirational belief in the role of law, but it is where I'm genuinely at. But this is all to say, I just don't know what to do with this anxiety and fear

In policy terms, I push for laws that protect the vulnerable, that empower those who protect the vulnerable with more staff, and that provide more opportunities to those who have had few. On a grander scale, I want constitutional reform that makes government more representative, less territorial

But that commitment only goes so far. It is, in many ways, defensive of a position. So I can also articulate what I'd like to see in society and maybe talking about it will help as well. I am a progressive because I believe we owe it to the past, to ourselves, and to our future to always push

I've felt unable to act for a while, in part because I am a public employee 2 years from PSLF. I want to continue serving the public in this capacity, and so I can at a minimum commit to always doing good work from this position and, if I can no longer do good, move on to another job.

I've been in an entirely useless state since Monday morning. My fear and anger is neither getting the things done I need in my personal life nor improving the odds that the future looks brighter in my public life. So I ask this to all here, what do we do (beyond vote) to make things better?

Gaming that out further, I suppose the constitutional tie is "he's the president" but I don't know if the federalism question is fully answered and the road there could lead to an even more dangerous place if NY decides the evidence component is dicta for NY state court actions.

I realize that there is likely no joy in this line of thinking, but is there a federalism issue here? SCOTUS is dictating, with no constitutional basis, the evidence admissible in a state court proceeding on state law. In other evidence cases, there is usually a constitutional tie.

I'm not educated enough to make this point well, but whiteness is an addiction, with no positive value and only personal and societal harm. I wish we (white people) would learn to how to give up whiteness in favor of real identities instead of constructed racist bullshit.

One thing I see in discussions with people in my life is this belief that voting is a sufficient step and when they don't get the results they want, they blame voting. Voting is the bare minimum participation. We need good people as engaged and organized as those who wish to cause harm.

I am intentionally avoiding using the term transhumanism in part because I don't know all the baggage of the term, but I know enough to know it has some. If I ever make it to academia, what I want to study is this area of health, tech, IP, and consumer policy.
